I'm in a bigKinks discovery/rediscovery phase, and want to read about the various albums. Is there a unanimous Kinks/Ray Davies book? Thought I'd get opinions here. Thanks.

What he said. Great great book. It's a day by day account with great commentary.

The price for a second hand copy of Hinman's 'You Really Got Me' is out of my reach. I have ordered
his 'All Day and All of the Night' which I'll have by year end. Not having seen either book at this stage I'm
wondering if the first book is now largely redundant. I'm sure it's of serious value as a collector's item but
is it essential for someone who has all of the albums and now wants to devote time to understanding the
    band in greater detail?

The only ones I've read are Johnny Rogan's The Kinks and Ray Davies' rather satirical "unauthorized autobiography" X-Ray. Really enjoyed them both.

Yes I've read both plus Dave Davies 'Kink'. I'm after a solid reference work that I can plough into time and time again. That's what I'll be getting (according to the reviews here and on Amazon) with 'All Day and All of the Night'. What I'd like to know is that now the definitive work or is Hinman's 'You Really Got Me' essential as well.
