Since there are numerous great ones at large, here are some favorite bridges from just my favorite band alone...

    "KISSes On The Bridge"

    1. 100,000 Years
    2. Cold Gin
    3. Do You Love Me
    4. I Want You
    5. Tomorrow And Tonight
    6. Living In Sin (Maybe the most comical bridge you will hear) :)
    7. When You Wish Upon A Star (Very beautiful)
    8. Move On
    9. Ain't Quite Right
    10. Kiss The Girl Goodbye
    11. I Was Made For Lovin You (Not just arguably the best bridge in a Kiss song, but one of the best bridges I've ever heard in any song! Love Paul's high notes here).
    12. Magic Touch (Another great Paul bridge, especially the high vocal part).
    13. She's So European
    14. Easy As It Seems
    15. A World Without Heroes (Another memorable Paul-based bridge, surprisingly with a lead solo by him).
    16. Forever
    17. Everytime I Look At You

That should do for now. :)

Love the bridge in Jimmy Cliff’s “many rivers to cross”...”and this loneliness won’t leave me alone, it’s such a drag to be on your own”

Mostly because of the tension built by the organ going into the bridge

All joking aside, this is the song that came to mind for me. That section is iconic, to the point where Clapton often leaves the audience hanging with an extended pause before launching into the dramatic guitar arpeggio and change of tempo. The song builds from that point on, leading to the emotional guitar solo.

Too many to list them all, but the first Beatles one I thought of was No Reply.

It was an observation and quite an accurate one. No need to project negativity onto my statements.

I Am The Walrus. The bridge, with those strings briefly leading up to "Sitting in an English Garden". Great bit ... I don't know if it's John's idea or George Martin.

    R.E.M. - Bang And Blame

One of my least favorite R.E.M. songs, but the soaring, feedback-laden, instrumental bridge saves it.

:kilroy: This bridge is only one line and yet, I consider it to be the highlight of the record. The big "Why Do I Love Him Like I Do?" at 1:04 is what makes the song:

'I've been making extra money doing high school sock hops
    I'm the big-time guest MC
You should hear me talking to the little children, and listen what they say to me.
I've got a spot on the top of my head
Just beggin' for a new toupee
I've got a tyre around my gut
From sitting on my (snare crack)
But it's never gonna go away.'

    Harry Chapin, WOLD.

I think there are actually two bridges in that song and the second one is ALMOST as good.

    "My Girl", Eric Carmen

The part that begins I need a lifetime...

It's equal to Brian Wilson or McCartney's best. No hype.

J.D.Souther's "Faithless Love" has a lovely bridge. Here's Linda Ronstadt's version:

Elton John - Someone Saved My Life Tonight:

"And I would have walked head on into the deep end the river
Clinging to your stocks and bonds
    Paying your H.P. demands forever
They're coming in the morning with a truck to take me home
Someone saved my life tonight, someone saved my life tonight
Someone saved my life tonight, someone saved my life tonight
    Someone saved my life tonight
So save your strength and run the field you play alone"

This lesser-known Todd Rundgren song has a bridge with some crazy chord changes. Starts at 1:35.

    Obviously, the correct answer is
“Say You Say Me” by Lionel Ritchie.

The bridge in James Brown's "Hot Pants" is amazing. It was so good they saved it for the end of the single version ("Part 1").

Mike Nesmith -"Rio" (from around 2:20)

Also, in Mike Nesmith's "Joanne", there's a sweet short bridge starting at "Though the essence is gone
I have no tears to cry for her
And my only thoughts of her are kind"

However, the more I ponder, the more I think this is the one that I like best: Don Gibson-"Sea Of Heartbreak" (at around 1:30)

I really don't like the song, but it's incredibly well-written.

Replacements' "Bastards of Young" has a quick 4 bar bridge that is just devastating in its economy and power. Really it's almost the whole song condensed into two lines.

    I always heard it as:

    No willingness to claim us
They got no war to name us

    Google lyrics has it as

    Unwillingness to claim us
Ya got no war to name us

Either way that is some taut, solid writing. I could probably find a dozen more examples of Paul Westerberg's songwriting genius, that's just the first one that came to mind.
