I remember I went into a local Tower Records a few years ago looking for LP's. I asked the kid at the counter where the vinyl records were and he replied with this, "Dude, records are obsolete!.
Why can't they change their name to Tower CD's if they aren't going to sell record albums?

About 6-7 years ago, I visited my sister-in-law in Pawtucket, RI. I went to a Circuit City store and the salesman was talking to a young couple. They were looking for a new DVD player and the guy tried to sell them a DIVX machine "because this is the best technology available and will last...blah, blah, blah.." you know the rest.

Fortunately for them, they don't buy it.

    Jose.

Most average people don't believe turntables are made anymore.

I once had a run-in with a salesman who asumed all teenagers liked hard rock/heavy metal.

I once walked into a high-end shop and the salesguy just looked at me and said, you look like you don't have anough money, and walked away. He never got my money!

My sincere apologies. I didn't mean to criticize anyone's taste in music, nor their lifestyle. I was wrong to make such sweeping generalization about a group of music lovers. I'm such a burntout, hurtin' unit spaceshot Deadhead.

I was in Fry's looking for a universal player. The salesman told me that DVD-A and SACD were the same thing.

    OK.

Here's two stupid comments from customers (no offense to customers, I am one).

"Do you have any music cd's?"

I also had an "alleged" thief bring in 20 dvd's to sell about 3 years ago. He said "Yeah, I just burned these to mini-disc so I don't need them anymore." Of course I told him that not only did mini-disc not handle video, you can't even digitally record the audio from a dvd disc.

Nothing stupid about the first question: there could be games, software etc. What pisses me off is everytime I catch a taxi from Gorbushka (biggest record market in Moscow) and study the covers of the newly purchased japanese or AKARMA mini-vinyl CDs the driver always asks me: "Are these games? What they're about?"

I really don't want to appear to advocate music piracy but I think that if you do a little online research you will find that there are a lot of naughty people out there doing just that.

I'm sorry, I meant digitally to a mini-disc, at least with a stereo component.

    This may sound petty, but-

What you do in those situations is buy from somewhere else, a competitor preferably, then return to his store and enthusiastically show him the receipt of all the cool gear you just picked up.

    It's called comeuppance. :)

Not everyone doing it is naughty.. I think it's perfectly within my fair use rights to rip a concert DVD I own and burn an audio CD from it. Of course, under the ridiculous DMCA, I'm actually breaking the law by doing so.

I have heard a lot of dumb things in stereo shops over the years, even in some hi-end shops that should know better. When I bought my current system the proprietor of the shop is legally blind (cannot drive) and very vision impaired. He never said single dumb thing to me, makes you wonder. :)

"Vinyl sucks, CD sucks. MP3s are definitely the way to go." Told to me by a pimply-faced 15-year-old at Best Buy. Arrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhh . . . .

Isn't employing 15-year-olds against child labor laws or something like that. :D

When I complained to the salesman that the speakers he was demonstrating sounded far too bright in my opinion he seriously responded: "well you should only use these on an amp with a mute button, by pushing the mute button you can take the treble out and make the speakers sound much more relaxed"

About to buy an Audio Research LS22 pre-amp from a high end shop. Said I would have one in black finish. Salesperson said they only had the silver finish as "they sound better than the black ones". I told him I wanted the black and the sound quality did not matter as I was deaf in both ears. He seemed genuinly concerned about my disability!
