"Greatest" just meaning the biggest album you can think of that you respect as significant but either A) don't personally resonate with, or B) just have never purchased, for some reason.

I make the above respect caveat just to immediatedly thwart any desire to turn this into one of the infamous "negative threads", where we are all just bashing popular albums because they are popular or digging for any or all criticisms just to make ourselves feel better about our own subjective tastes. :D

At any rate, with that decided, feel free to offer your top "missing gem"! :)

I think the biggest one I can think of is perhaps one of these two (both of which I acknowledge and very much respect but have never owned):

    Highway 61 Revisited: Bob Dylan
Dark Side Of The Moon: Pink Floyd

I am a big fan of most classic Prog rock,
yet I’m not overly familiar with
or own any albums from Jethro Tull.

    So... “Thick as a Brick”

Among the candidates in my case...

The Band: Music from Big Pink
    Van Morrison: Astral Weeks
    The New York Dolls

    Radiohead: OK Computer

Hot Buttered Soul by Isaac Hayes and whatever's considered Joni Mitchell's 'greatest' album.

I'm 56 years old and bought my first Beatles album less than a year ago (a used CD copy of The White Album). So, my answer is - all Beatles albums aside from that one.

I've listened to the Dark Side of the Moon "Immersion Box" and other Pink Floyd albums from the library, but never bought any Floyd albums. Same goes for Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Radiohead, Kanye, and Kendrick Lamar.

Probably the most highly acclaimed jazz album missing from my collection is The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady. I love Mingus, but can't get into that one.

    Another vote for Big Pink.
In fact I own nothing from The Band.

Probably Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here. I have some of their other albums, but not these two.

In that case, your listing here should be The Band, not Big Pink. ;)

These are Albums I have been meaning to buy eventually:

    Amy Whinehouse-Back to Black
Neutral Milk Hotel-In the Aeroplane Over the Sea(do I have the Artist & Album Title Correct?)
Talk Talk-Laughing Stock(I do own 'Spirit of Edan')
Hawkwind-Quarks, Strangeness..........(I recently bought the early Albums from the 'This is Your Captain Speaking' Box Set and 'Warrior on the Edge of Time' Mini Box with the Steven Wilson Remox)
    Love-Forever Changes

I plan to explore and potentially buy Albums from The Bevis Frond, as heard they are a Psychedelic-Rock Music Artist.

This Summer I knocked a few Albums off my 'To Buy' list when buying 'Pet Sounds'(AF & DCC).

My own post was a fairly simple process - I pulled the top 500 albums from RS and went down the list until I found the first album I didn't actually own.

I can acknowledge the general understanding of how important that album is for many people, but not owning it myself. Pet Sounds actually used to be my answer until some years back when I finally grabbed a digital copy.

FYI, that one took me quite a while to get used to. And I’m not generally averse to punk.

I did much the same. Which is how "Highway 61 Revisited" at #4 ended up as my first/ top candidate.

    Good approach!

By that method, Elvis Presley's "Sun Sessions" (#11) would be tops - sort of. I do have the "Complete 50s Masters" set, though, and I think that all the "Sun Sessions" stuff is in there.

I own a copy of Miles Davis's "Kind of Blue" (#12) but only because I collect early CDs. I've never played it for my own listening enjoyment.

Van Morrison's "Astral Weeks" (#19) is the highest-ranked I don't own at all...
