Got a box from Amazon from Luke Chung today that has a nifty Sony Blu-ray player in it. A nice gift from Luke.

I guess he got tired of me procrastinating about buying a player and just had one sent to me. Many thanks, Luke. The kids are excited.

We have some disks already stocked up (mainly kids movies) so what is really, really great out there? The best restorations, etc.?

    Thanks again, Luke!

The Wizard Of Oz restoration was very well done. There are some expensive deluxe editions, but the regular one has quie a bit and can be had cheaply.

2001 looks stunning on blu ray if that's your cup of tea.

I've had my first blu ray player, a Sony for several years now, works wonderful. Congrats!

Oklahoma! - Especially the Todd-AO version in 30 fps. Everything that was wrong with the previous DVD has been made spectacularly right on the Blu-ray.

The Ten Commandments looks phenomenal. One of Paramount's best restorations.

Wow is right ! What a great, selfless act of pure generosity ! Well, rather than list titles, I'm going to PM you a link to my collection, and just like my son does, you can holler if you have a question about a title, and I'll answer you ASAP.
Difference being, he can make a choice in his room, then walk in here, and check it out, like a lending library.
You gotta rent, or buy your copy. I have 500 right now.

    Another vote for South Pacific.

Also worth a try - Avatar, Nutcracker by the Bolshoi Ballet, and the complete Brandenburg Concertos by Orchestra Mozart.

DVD Beaver is probably the best place to read blu-ray reviews.

A little nerdy, so the SHF crown is pre-approved!

Another vote for 2001: A Space Odyssey. I had seen the movie at least 30 or 40 times, and watching the blu-ray was like seeing it for the first time.
