As a buyer, what's your auction success rate percentage on eBay? Mine is currently sitting at 66.5% and my goal is to improve that mediocre score for 2018.

Pretty high, but I haven't done the math.

Mine is low, maybe less than 20%, though I only bid on ~5 things last year..

I think auction should benefit the buyer much more than the seller. By making your product available for 7 days you severely limit the market. Most niche used products need to be listed for weeks on craigslist to find a serious buyer.

Also many people can't be bothered with the whole auction concept. If I see a product with bids on it I will just skip. Why? Because I don't want to wait 7 days only to find out I was outbid in the last minute. If it already has bids, best not to bother bidding. So your market shrinks even more.

With a tiny market one should "theoretically" be able to get things dirt cheap... But sadly my 20% success rate does not reflect that..

I haven't done the maths on this but I'd say it was >80%. Most of the stuff I want others aren't interested in so I bung a bid on and forget about it, usually win but hey ho if I don't. If on the off chance it's something that I know is going to command a higher price and I really want it then I use a sniper site, again if I don't win it I'm not too bothered or I'd have put a higher snipe on.

The only problem I have is sometimes when I check completed items I see something I wish I hadn't missed out on, the worse one I saw was an Audio Fidelity SACD of Ritchie Valens Greatest Hits, it had a Buy It Now price of £1.99, not sure the guy knew what he'd got or he'd forgotten how much he paid for it!
