As the son of an artist I have a huge appreciation for album artwork. Post your favs.
Four album cover artwork favorites: American Beauty (Stanley Mouse/Alton Kelley), Aoxomoxoa (Rick Griffin), It's A Beautiful Day (George Hunter/Kent Hollister), Quicksilver Messenger Service (Rick Griffin).
Hawkwind Space Ritual
Here is one. I could of picked a hundred or hundreds more. I have lots of favorites when it comes to album art.
Rick Griffin's Aoxomoxoa cover is great, though I think I prefer Anthem Of The Sun (painted by Bill Walker, a friend of Phil Lesh). It suits the music they were playing at that time perfectly. A really nice touch if you look at the band member's faces - Pigpen's eyes are closed - he was the only member who did not ingest LSD (though I hear he was dosed without his knowledge a few times).
I always liked these two
More great album cover artwork....Forever Changes (Bob Pepper), In The Court Of The Crimson King (Barry Godber):
And if we include CDs only.
Some of the prior posted ones are also awesome.
My favorite has always been this one.
I've always liked this one since I was a teen.
Childrens Childrens Children
Love R. Crumb's Yazoo covers, a bunch I own are framed. And the Big Brother cover is a classic.
Sorry guys meant to put this in visual arts but too late now.. Here`s another
Not beautiful or pretty, but I still like it for it's double-take potential. To jbshaw85, there are a ton of threads on album covers if you want to use the search engine. Your low post count is the only reason I mention it. You may not be aware.
Another Crumb cover, suitable for framing!
I wnoder if Forever Changes or Pink Moon would be on here if the music was crap. That might be a good thread, too, favorite album artwork for an album you dont like (or know)!
The topic is "What's Your Favorite LP Artwork". I responded with Pink Moon because it is in fact a favorite album artwork for me. Why would you take the time to challenge that?
There's been a few threads in the past that have mentioned the very creative Classical album covers from Westminster Gold, Here's another:
