  2. Well, you wore out your welcome with random precision
You rode on the steel breeze
Come on you raver, you seer of visions, come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner, and shine!

    I have grown older
    You have grown colder
And nothing is very much fun anymore

I was in a lifeless marriage when these lines just tore into me. Divorced a couple years later, but this lyric still hits me.

Except that he stole the "quiet desperation" line from Thoreau, an American.

How about some lines not spoken/sung by a member of the band?

"And I am not frightened of dying. Any time will do, I don't mind. Why should I be frightened of dying? There's no reason for it – you've got to go sometime."

Also, in the same song, "AHHHWOOOOOWAHHHOOWWWHHAAAAAEEEEEEYEEEAAAHOOOOWHHOOOHH..." (edited for clarity.)

Not the whole line, just those two words.

    Thoreau, from Walden:

“The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation. What is called resignation is confirmed desperation. From the desperate city you go into the desperate country, and have to console yourself with the bravery of minks and muskrats. A stereotyped but unconscious despair is concealed even under what are called the games and amusements of mankind. There is no play in them, for this comes after work. But it is a characteristic of wisdom not to do desperate things.”

Remember when you were young, and you shone like the sun?

For all the time spent in that room
The doll`s house darkness, old perfume
And fairy stories held me high
On clouds of sunlight rolling by

Lime and limpid green a second scene
A fight between the blue you once knew
    Floating down the sound resounds
    Around the icy waters underground

And the afforementioned lines from "Echoes" and "Comfortably Numb." That first line of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" chokes me up every time I hear it.

"and you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
racing around to come up behind you again"

I used to think of this line during long flights, how the sun couldn't be caught. Quite a remarkable universe.

Quite a few I love with Floyd being my favorite band and all,as of late tho I'm keen on the proto Dogs (you gotta be crazy)line "They gotta get you started early
Processed by the time you're thirty
Work like f*** 'till you're sixty five
And then your time's your own until you die " as it's how I feel at this point in my life.

And after a while, you can work on points for style
Like the club tie, and the firm handshake
A certain look in the eye and an easy smile

You have to be trusted by the people that you lie to
So that when they turn their backs on you
You'll get the chance to put the knife in

a band full of great lyrics, but all time favorite? You could probably pick any line from Breathe or Time, and I'd call it my favorite.

I've got no favorite, I'm just mentioning an excerpt of one of the so many great lyrics by Pink Floyd.

That is some very descriptive, memorable imagery. Say what you want about Roger Waters, but the man had a way with words, as this thread attests. It's difficult for me to narrow it down, but I would agree with those who cite "Cymballine", "Comfortably Numb", "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" and particularly "Echoes".
