hard to pick one among Murmur, Fables, Lifes Rich Pageant, Hi-Fi, but I went with LRP.

"Up" was close to getting my vote but Murmur was love at first listen.

Not the biggest R.E.M. fan, but they have some good songs scattered around their discography. I like Murmur the most. The latest albums are all dull.

I think Automatic is their best album
but my favorite is Out Of Time

Murmur is their best album. Lifes Rich Pageant is my favorite. On a related note, you can't be a great band if you never surpassed your first album. IMO

 

New Adventures in Hi-Fi.

 

The Doors? Guns n Roses? The Jimi Hendrix Experience? The Cars? Velvet Underground?

 

Maybe bands should change their name after every album... never have to deal with the sophomore jinx, every album is a do-over debut album...

 

I really like Document the best.

I picked Document. Could just as easily have gone with Murmur or Out of Time.

Yup, those first 5 were hard to choose from.

 

I don't know their earlier albums well, but for me Automatic for the People is a classic and one of the very best albums of its era, as well as still sounding great and relevant today. I like Out of Time, but for me they never really recovered from Monster. I tried hard to like later albums (and indeed bought some) too but I couldn't take to them. Glad they split when they did. I'm going to check out stuff like Murmur, Green, and Document as some point....For me, becoming a bit more commercial suited them.
