So Jazz88 has a morning spot at 6:20am where they play a blues cut. This morning it was Jimmy Thackery "Blind Man in the Night". Talk about a slow burning song with an absolutely scorching guitar line....gotta check me out some more Jimmy. Anyone in this thread got some recommendations?
There are many great blues albums, for me Robert Johnson's Drunken Hearted Man cuts deep. His performance, his life, and mythology define the blues in many ways for me.
Check out EMPTY ARMS MOTEL. It was my introduction to Jimmy Thackeray and is still my favourite. Contains a great version of RED HOUSE.
My wife never knew of Fleetwood Mac in the early Blues band mode so on Sat. morn I put on the 2 LP Fleetwood Mac/Black Magic Woman the Epic label comp of their first two LP's... Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac and English Rose. She loved it...as did I. It's still my favorite Blues record today...Monday Morning.
This one! Albert backed up by Booker T & the MG's. The blueprint for much that followed. Never far from my turntable.
I received the two Hound Dog Taylor Japanese remasters today from Alligator Records. I have one on vinyl but haven't had a chance to play them yet. Pretty psyched!!
I've really enjoyed trawling through these 45 pages. Have now got a nice list to check out or purchase and another list of albums to dig out and play. Great stuff
