I bought my original copy of Jonathan Edward's Lucky Day live LP (on the right) when it came out in 1974, and it's pretty much been in high rotation ever since.

For some reason in the last two decades of collecting (used) LPs I've never seen another copy, until last week, when I scored the one on the left at the thrift shop here in town where I work (one dollar). Not only is it in much better shape, but unlike my original which is a "RI" (Rhode Island) pressing, the new one is a Monarch pressing, and the sonics are indeed more lifelike and detailed! The LP cover colors are even different.

Dr. Demento Covered In Punk, which I picked up last week at Forbidden Planet in NYC, where many of the album's participants (which included Fred Schneider of the B-52s, Uncle Floyd and Doctor D. himself) were there to sign it at the release party.

It's a very cool record and plays through like an episode of the Dr. Demento Show. I'd recommend it highly to any fans of either the show itself or of the artists on the record.

I picked up two used LPs at 11th Street Records today.

Chick Churchill - You n' Me
Allan Holdsworth - Road Games (promo)

The Chick Churchill album caught my attention because I remembered his name from the liner notes of UFO's album, Force It. (Chick guested on keyboards.) When I flipped the cover over I saw that Martin Barre, Cozy Powell, Roger Hodgson, Rick Davies, Leo Lyons and Bernie Marsden were all over the thing, so I decided to take a chance on it.

More Hits By The Supremes (Motown, original US mono) - cost me virtually nothing and sounds (and looks) better than it oughta for the price I paid.

Sarah Vaughan - Arranged and Conducted by Michel Legrand. Recorded in a studio large enough to hold 106 musicians in addition to Sassy and the enormous ego of Michel Legrand. Talk about your wall of Sound. Phil who! The back cover has 3 black & white photos of MLG all puffed-up conducting the multitudes and not a picture of Sarah to be found.

Bought this blind; had the right look and smell. Reeked of possibility. Specifically didn't ask the guy who knows everything about everything ever recorded (every good record store has one either on staff or just hanging out in a corner, headphones secure, listening to a perceived treasure on his portable turntable) anything about the record. Wanted a totally virgin listen.

Might be heavy; like Blue Cheer heavy. Certainly ain't gona be Sarah +2.

To paraphrase the DC5 in the voice of Mike Smith < (sometimes I fantasize I'm that guy that knows everything about everything...) I'll be having a wild weekend.

    Everybody MAMBO!

To be delivered today from Discogs:

Van Morrison - St. Dominic's Preview (Original pressing with the green Warner label and the original fold-out insert)
Gene Simmons - Gene Simmons (Not my favorite of the KISS solo albums, but I found one on Discogs that still has both the poster and the KISS Army membership form, so I snatched it)
