Huh interesting. I wonder what the cause would be since my German pressing of SEBTP, which had the same producer, sounds great, not muffled at all.

  2. An (almost) 50 year old time capsule!! Just found a sealed copy of Grinder's Switch w/Garland Jeffreys. Circa 1970 on the Vanguard label.

Same. I believe I have the same exact German release round of Genesis for Foxtrot and SEBTP since both share similar cats as well as me buying both at the same time in similar condition, probably coming from the same owner. Yet SEBTP sounds great compared to side 1 of Foxtrot.
It was one of the first topics I made a thread on in this forum. I thought it was groove wear but it seems like Genesis is just badly recorded a lot of times.
Heres a new thread I made about it:
    Genesis Muffled Releases

    And heres my old thread:
    Muffled records phenomena

SEBTP does not have the same producer as Foxtrot (John Burns produced the former, David Hitchcock the latter). In any event, SEBTP is known to have much better sound than their previous albums, while Foxtrot is probably their darkest recording in most masterings I've heard.

Yeah I’ve heard Trespass is a poor recording in general.

I got these 4 Lp’s for $21 shipping included. Just finished playing Reach The Beach and I’m amazed at how good the production is. Some really strong material on this Lp.

Got a UK issue etched by Tim Young of Elvis Costello's Get Happy!! LP for $9. Plays real good and am quite enjoying the sound of it. Like the F Beat LP label too.

Also a clean and quiet 'like new' copy of Beth Orton's The Sugaring Season. Got a pretty good decent price on it at $13. Nicely put together austere and minimalist sort of gatefold cover presentation, inner sleeve, and label, that goes nicely with the music.
