When an alternate album cover is (in your opinion) better than the original?

Felt. First and second issues and Creation CD. Cropped versions are better - that Bardot headband just isn't working for Lawrence. Shame to lose the slightly sinister black glove on the CD (but I prefer it sans text).

    #3 is European. #2 is US/International.

More family friendly, perhaps, but it doesn't exactly make me feel less uncomfortable.

The Ziggy 'kick' cover is my favourite Bowie cover out of many serious contenders, and arguably in my Top 5 of all-time favourite album covers, period.

The Jeff cover only had a limited run in the UK too, then we got the belly buttons. We still didn't get 'Showdown' though!

the "secret" to understanding the crop and monochrome is to listen to what's inside. the album doesn't sound like the colour version. very good decision making from Bowie IMHO.
that's not to say it's not a nice picture in colour, and more appopriately used as such on the japanese TVC15 single. sadly it will now be tainted having been used to house the maslin perversion.

Well, I'd forgotten about that. It's been years since I've seen a copy of the original issue. But yeah, you're right. Just another reason why the original issue was a mistake, in my opinion.

I know not many will agree with me about this one, but I actually prefer the UK reissue of Cristo Redentor.

    US original (on Philips)

    UK reissue (on Editions EG)

I like both covers of this album, but to me the alternate cover is NOT better than the standard in this case, but I'm posting it because some may prefer the rare Australian variant.

  16. It was actually the Turkish version that had the nose-pickin' cover.

It's literally as easy as right clik, copy and paste.

  18. That original cover is awfully tawdry and tacky. Who knows how it would've appealed to the girls who launched BJ to the big leagues.

Somehow I get the feeling that whoever lashed together that cover was not a McCartney fan. That has to be one of the dumbest pictures I've ever seen of the guy, and it doesn't help that he looks completely off his head, either...

I could really have lived without the lazy teenage Smell the Glove image we got in Europe. I've thought about buying a US copy of the album to replace it but they put out a weaker tracklist there.

I like the original (top) sleeve for the LP and CD, however, I did very much like the third one, which I had as a poster on my bedroom wall, alongside two of Debbie Harry.

I use the image on the left, on my music sever. The grey cover, is exactly that, and has no standout features.

The grey cover, is just flat, simply two dimensional.
