It recently hit me after getting the amazing Turnstiles SACD how Billy Joel must have not liked California in the early-mid 70s very much. Obviously, California was a hot bed for the industry then, but apparently ole Billy couldn't fit in or at least felt uncomfortable there. If my previous assertions are wrong, then maybe he just missed New York, so who knows? At any rate, he felt compelled enough to write songs about it. Also, the same things can be heard on Steely Dan records as well. Take a song like "Home At Last" off of Aja and clearly the boys are missing New York and are sick of California. What are some other examples of New York to California unhappiness in music or even California to New York? I've visited both places and love them both, so I am also curious if anyone here had issues living in one or the other from one to the other?
