Went along to see one of my favourite local/Melbourne/Australian bands Rocket Science for the fifth time in a year, and all of a sudden there's this different guy on lead guitar! During the show, it was implied this is a permanent change. In perspective, 'the new guy' is a member of one of the band's related side-projects, so he's not some fly-in session muso, but one of the great things about Rocket Science has been its stability - they've been around for ten years now, so a lineup change is/will be quite hard for me to accept as a fan of the band. (Ironically - or perhaps more tellingly not? - last night Rocket Science played possibly the best show I've seen them do.) Reminds me of Ray Manzarek(?) describing the bond within The Doors as being a square, the strongest shape, and when you take one out of the equation it's weaker, or something. (Couldn't find the exact quote, sorry.) So anyway, my question is this: When did your favourite band change lineup and how did you feel? Did you stop liking the band? Was it an improvement? Did their style change as a result? Should they have called it a day?
