When TV "booth announcers" got wimpy.

    This is what I've always wondered. I feel like that's just the way the American accent is going though. A lot guys around 30 seem to have more kid like voices than guys around 30 seem to have had in the 50s. My observation is almost entirely based on actors, mind you.

    My wife just turned the TV on so it would be "on" and there was this annoying wimpy voice hosting some sub-channel show and telling us he'd be back after this. Ugh.

    The Allstate Insurance VoiceOver man sounds like a classic announcer.

    Not a network voice over guy, but the greatest voice I ever heard was the old NFL Films announcer, John Fascenda. They called him the "Voice of God". As a kid, I'd record NFL Films shows on a little cassette recorder just to hear that voice and the music.

    We got to hear John Facenda every day and night as the anchor of WCAU-TV's newscasts in Philadelphia, the CBS affiliate at the time. His resonant tones were indeed inspiring!
