I was riding around with a buddy, and we were listening to "Heaven Tonight" by Cheap Trick and "Straight Shooter" by Bad Company on 8 Track . I never owned an 8 track player myself.

Oh, HIGH SCHOOL? Thought you meant College. I don't know that I can remember so far back, but Doug Kerhsaw figured in there somehow.

I had the same problem - see post #30.

The OP could have made it easier by asking "when you were 15"

1967-68 for me, so it was 45s, LPs & AM radio for me. I was just telling a friend last night about buying The Doors' "The Unknown Soldier" single in the spring of '68.

That would've been '88-'89 for me, so I was listening to a bunch of this stuff, all on cassette or vinyl (didn't buy my first CD till 1993):
    fIREHOSE
    Soul Asylum
    Husker Du
    Replacements
    U2
7 Seconds (which was going through its U2-wannabes phase)
    REM
    Descendents/ALL
    Sonic Youth
    The Cure
    The Jam
    Sex Pistols
    Wire
    Public Image Limited
    Dead Milkmen
a little bit of Ride, Happy Mondays, Inspiral Carpets, Charlatans UK, etc.
a bunch of Dischord Records artists that a friend told me about after he moved from our hometown of Tampa to D.C.

And then in 1990 I first heard Pavement and the Wedding Present, which had a huge influence on my musical taste.

My sophomore year was 1989-90. My primary obsession was The Beatles/solo on any and all formats (and nothing has changed, from the time I was 4 years old to now, at 43 years old). I was also starting to build other collections - i.e. Elvis Costello, The Moody Blues, Bee Gees, Fleetwood Mac, The Byrds, David Bowie, The Rolling Stones...

I skipped lunch for weeks to save enough money to buy Simon & Garfunkel's Bookends on CD.

Again, this was in 1990. I felt a bit out of step with the Vanilla Ice or Guns N' Roses loving masses. Fortunately, a new wave of British pop (starting with The La's) would soon come along that would re-ignite my love of modern music, including a lot of the great music I missed out on during my early high school years!

Fall 1978-Spring 1979. I had something similar to this. I only had records, the only cassettes I had were ones I made myself. I got my drivers' license in the summer of 1979.

I was listening to punk/new wave, r&b and hard rock. I started listening to jazz in 79.

Holdovers from '69 for my '70-'71 sophomore year...but darn good holdovers. BS&T was my first LP purchase. CTA was second. 1969 was a great year for music.

An 8-track of The Rolling Stones' 1973 European tour recorded off the King Biscuit Flower Hour. I could put that on today and tell you exactly where the "clicks" were.

This was at the height of my metal head phase in 1988-89. Around the spring of 1989, there was a left turn, when a friend turned me onto “Fragile” by Yes. Almost overnight, I went from metalhead to proghead.

That was 1995-1996 for me, and the lineup was as follows (forgive me if I can't remember exactly what time of year titles were released, and I know some came out earlier than '95):

Smashing Pumpkins Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness
Nine Inch Nails The Downward Spiral
    Wu-Tang Clan Enter the...36 Chambers
The Notorious B.I.G. Ready to Die
    The Beatles Anthology 1, 2, & 3

Lots of U2 and Queen. Interest in the former has diminished to a point where Rattle And Hum is the only album that gets regular spins. Just not really on my radar these days...

    Ah, the days...

Grabbing a favourite album from your older brother's collection, taping it and putting it back exactly the way it was so he won't notice...

I had dozens of those!

I was an EDM head at the time and would always have my earphones in listening to the music in full blast.

    Skylar Grey
    Martin Solveig
    David Guetta
    Zedd
    Calvin Harris
    Sia
    Nero
    Avicii

I honestly do not care for a lot of these artists now and don't care for EDM much at all either but when I was 15/16 it was 80% of what I listened to.
