    Wooden Shjips - Motorbike
    Temples - Lon Lon
Dick Dale - Temple of Gizeh
    Spirit - Fresh Garbage
    Neil Young - Last Dance
The Bee Gees - NY Mining Disaster 1941
Woody Guthrie - Top O' The Train
Mott the Hoople - The Ballad of Mott the Hoople
Frigid Pink - The House of the Rising Sun
    The Isley Brothers - Shout
    Yes - Perpetual Change
The Jam - Town Called Malice
The Rolling Stones - We Love You
    Mark Ronson - Daffodils

I rarely get into that situation but if there are no CDs in the car, I go to the French radio station FIP which plays a mix of rock, classical, reggae, jazz, country,... and all without chat or adverts.

NPR or I turn off the radio and make up songs while I drive around. Second only to making up songs in the shower. Um, doesn't everybody do this?

KSDS 88.3FM, jazz88.org, primarily traditional jazz with special segments for blues, big band, rug cutters swing, latin grooves, and much more.

2013 Jazz Station of the Year!

A safe/sane haven from the inanity of commercial FM.

Mike & Mike in the Morning (in the morning), the Sarah Jaffe to Led Zeppelin NPR music affiliate sometimes (not too big on a lot of the new stuff they play). I like to play the "predict the next artist/song game with the classic rock station (I absolutely nailed "Barracuda" the other day, and my wife can back me up on it!). The community radio station has good "Texas Renegade", blues, jazz, reggae, and Grateful Dead shows.

From what I can tell, their station is more of an NPR style, not really "college radio" if that makes sense. Not that there's anything wrong with that. But generally not my "go-to" style like say, WCNI out of Connecticut.

Right now the SMS/MSU station is playing some really good jazz.

I forgot it's MSU now. Something didn't seem right as I typed SMS.

"SMS" will never die! Not as long as I'm around. :D

    Here is their lineup:

    12:00 AM BBC World Service
    5:00 AM Morning Edition
    10:00 AM Arts News
    10:30 AM Classical 24 Playlist
    12:00 PM Song Travels
    1:00 PM Science Friday
    3:00 PM Fresh Air
    4:00 PM All Things Considered
    6:30 PM All Songs Considered
    7:00 PM Friday Excursions
    9:00 PM Friday Jazz Excursions
    10:00 PM World Beat Broadcast

So apparently, we don't actually have a real "college" station here. I found this interesting:

Southeast Missouri State University cancels student radio station
A college radio station is going off the air, and Southeast Missouri State students will move to a new home.

The group broadcasting Thursday might be the last group of Southeast students to broadcast on RAGE 103.7.

Director Karie Hollerbach said students will now partner with the NPR station KRCU to create news content.

She said three factors went into the decision: student interest in running the radio has declined, expenses exceed revenue and the emphasis on the degree has changed to multimedia journalism.

That's pretty amazing. KCOU in Columbia was always pretty strong. I have no idea what shape they're in today.

No surprise to me. I doubt many college kids listen to radio....let alone a college station. Why would they want to run the station when there are maybe less that 100 listeners at any point in time?

I'm not surprised either but it probably has to do with culture of the area too. theres a lot a really good college stations out there in more populated areas.

gregorya I approve of this message

I just keep pushing the scan button until I find something I like... on occasion I stumble onto things I really like and hadn't heard before, or really like and hadn't heard in a long time. On occasion I just keep pushing scan or start talking back to the radio, or sing alternate lyrics to annoying songs...
