Wow, I had that turned up full blast on my phone and it sounded great. Im impressed. Kind of scarey (even with the "best of" thread at hand) throwing money at these. But wow, whoever did the mastering on that did a very good job. Sounds better than the lp to me.

This is a 2013 flat DSD transfer of Syncrhronicity released on both Pt & non-Pt SHM-CDs... ;)

Flat huh? Well thats even weirder. Who needs a mastering engineer.

Had it ever been released flat before? And have you found that the other flat transfers that show up on the SHMs are this nice sounding?

I bought the "flat" transfer SHM CD of Richie Blackmore's Rainbow. The bass was boosted. Not flat at all. I feel most modern remasters/issues are a joke.

How do you know the bass was boosted?

I sent some clips to Kevin who looked at it. You can also tell by listening. It was boosted compared to the original Polydor US CD.

All that means is the original CD had less bass. Not that the SHM was boosted.

So Dennis Drake lowered the bass? I hope so. Good call on his part if that is the case. The US Polydor CDs are still my go to for all the Rainbow.

    He certainly could have.

    Yes, he could.

It is easy to draw wrong conclusions.
Everyone hears that "Breakfast in America" SHM-SACD has a more powerful bottom end compared to any CD version. Is it then right to conclude that there was added bass in the mastering?
    Of course not.
