I remember Metal Guru was number one for what seemed like ages and was always on the jukebox (younger readers may need to Google "jukebox") - T. Rex had many hit singles - no poll needed here, just enthuse on which ones you liked most and why...

    T. Rex Discography - UK - 45cat

    "Debora"
    "Pewter Suitor"
"By the Light of a Magical Moon"
    "Ride a White Swan"
    "Hot Love"
    "Get It On"
    "Jeepster"
    "Telegram Sam"
    "Metal Guru"
    "Children of the Revolution"
    "Solid Gold Easy Action"
    "20th Century Boy"
    "The Groover"
    "Truck On (Tyke)"
"Teenage Dream" (as Marc Bolan and T. Rex)
    "Light of Love"
"Zip Gun Boogie" (as Marc Bolan on original issue)
    "New York City"
"Dreamy Lady" (as T. Rex Disco Party)
    "London Boys"
    "I Love to Boogie"
    "Laser Love"
    "The Soul of My Suit"
    "Dandy in the Underworld"
    "Celebrate Summer"

One of the last singles they did I really liked...

Thanks for something not on that list which was simply a UK discography. These are songs unknown to me and I'm keen to learn.

Fabulous consecutive run of 9 fabulous singles.

    "Ride a White Swan"
    "Hot Love"
    "Get It On"
    "Jeepster"
    "Telegram Sam"
    "Metal Guru"
    "Children of the Revolution"
    "Solid Gold Easy Action"
    "20th Century Boy"

"The Groover" marked a downturn in quality for me that Marc was never to recover from.

I think 20th Century Boy is the tops. Somehow, it didn't get pushed here in the states. Weird.
Towards the end there I thought Lazer Love was pretty good, maybe a bit Ziggy like. :)

    I like the Groover too.

Metal Guru all the way for me.

Ride a White Swan is intriguing enough to dominate the rest.

On the other hand, I could never understand the attraction to the completely uninteresting Bang a Gong (a. k. a. Get It On).

All of them!!! But if I had to pick one favorite, it would be the one I recently did an acoustic cover, or should I say my interpretation of for my acoustic project.

Hard to pick as I love to listen to their LPs, but my top choice in isolation is Jeepster, I love how that track just rips out of the speakers. Metal Guru is probably my number two, the hook is so sticky just thinking about it has it on repeat in my head.

At that point in time Australian radio was very regional - what might be played and be a hit in one state might be completely unknown in another.

Here in Victoria Melbourne radio played all the "A" sides from Hot Love to Children of the Revolution at the time. The later ones not very much if at all.

    My absolute faves would be

Hot Love - very happy, cheery with subtle sensuality.
Get It On - I think it's the lyrics and the sound and space between
Metal Guru - ditto - Flo and Eddie really shine on this one
Children of the Revolution - the riff, the sound and that the lyrics signalled (like many other songs) a new beginning.

Two I'd choose as worthy also-rans:
King of the Rumbling Spires (absent from your list, as is One Inch Rock) - not released in Australia on 45 - combines the otherworldly lyrics of that Tyrannosaurus Rex period with the electricity, not fully formed, of the T.Rex period. It sounds unfinished - like it's about to go somewhere but doesn't - and that's part of its appeal.

The Soul of My Suit - the final Australian 45 - flashes back to the Electric Warrior period and its lyrics wouldn't be out of place on A Beard of Stars.

Big statement: There Was A Time /Raw Ramp is possibly one of the best B sides from anyone. If I was to choose one side of a 45 to represent T.Rex this would be it.

"Ride a White Swan", "Hot Love", "Telegram Sam", "Children of the Revolution", and "20th Century Boy" are my top five, in no real order.

Overexposure to "Get It On" in my formative years kind of limits the song's appeal though I can't deny that it's fantastic. I just can't stand listening to it without hearing other songs by Marc & Co.

I think the Dandy In The Underworld album and the "Celebrate Summer" single were the first steps towards Bolan's rise back up to greatness. They didn't reach the heights of the streak of singles and albums from 1970-73 but they showed (to me, anyway) Bolan could have been a force to be reckoned with in his thirties.

Ones I never get tired of...

    Ride a White Swan
    Get It On
    Telegram Sam
    20th Century Boy

Also like Children of the Revolution (The Born To Boogie version over the single version).

That's a great clip and a great drum sound.

Thought it was all Ringo, 'till right at the end there's a glimpse of Bill Legend playing away too.
