Cardigans. I like Abba well enough but haven't found anything beyond their hit singles to be very interesting.

Älgarnas Trädgård was a pretty decent band. My favorite from that era is definitely Kebnekajse though. Their first two albums are among the best Swedish rock albums ever made if you ask me. The first one is kinda standard psych/prog, while the later ones are more influenced by Swedish folk music.

Then of course there's Pugh Rogefeldt. His first three albums are all really great, but the debut from -69 is spectacular. I think I've read somewhere that Kim Gordon's a big fan of the song Love, Love, Love, which was also sampled on DJ Shadows Endtroducing.

The different incarnations of Träd, gräs & stenar is also worth mentioning. They made some really psychedelic stuff, especially under their first name Pärson Sound that was very ahead of its time imo.

The jazz pianist Jan Johanssons album Jazz på svenska is just lovely and something I would recommend to anyone. Very minimalist and melancholy. It's commonly said that no album captures the "Swedish soul" and mentality as well as this one.

I'm a big fan of bob hund among the more recent bands, at least their first four albums or so are excellent.

  10. I like Abba but it seems to me a more fair assessment would be to compare contemporary bands. My choice is TSOUL.

I was a little surprised at the exclusion of Dungen here, so I went with TSOOL, whose music is a treasure trove for fans of classic rock and psychedelia. I'll admit that I'd kind of lost track of those guys in recent years and this thread has encouraged me to go back and check out their newer material.

Shocking Blue were from The Netherlands - a country which would lend itself for a poll like this too. I'm surprised so many of you American voters are familiar with Swedish bands. I wonder how that would turn out for the Netherlands.

I chose Abba. As others stated, it's really no contest. The Cardigans would come in second and I think Roxette would be my #3.

I voted ABBA for their legacy.

My favourite album from Sweden is Cardigans - Long Gone Before Daylight. I don't like all their material though, but that album is a corker.
