The Purple Box. Laughable that all this stuff is alternate takes, outtakes, etc!
Never really appreciated before how well-sequenced it is.

The single CD version. A really great live album.

I'm guessing Jimi didn't have a chance to work up a suitable live version for the BOG concerts, I'd have liked to have heard at least once (possibly in place of Foxy Lady on Jan 1, which should have been in the 2nd show, but that's another conversation)

I miss Killing Floor from the old Rykodisc single cd version though.

Jimi Hendrix - Presents The Band Of Gypsys

1970 German "Club-Sonderauflage " (record club "Special Edition".) Unusual track order and the addition of the studio version of Fire makes it a bit different.

With the photo being like an 'alternative' IOW* shot, makes it an interesting and pleasing addition to the collection... I just got it at the end of last week.

Since I got the box, never really looked at the track listing for the single disc version, sort of an odd amalgamation of the Ryko set, Concerts and the +3 disc. Yeah, I'd miss some of the old songs while listening to it.

Listened to my playlist of the "original" Cry of Love:

    Dolly Dagger
    Drifting
    Ezy Ryder
    Night Bird Flying
    Room Full of Mirrors
    Freedom
    Astro Man
    Angel
    In From the Storm
    Belly Button Window

I actually like my other alternate version a little better-DD still starts side one with Freedom ending it and Side two is as released starting with Straight Ahead

Couple of ABALS. A Greek Polydor International which is very nice. A great option for the alternate mixes of this album.
The second one, playing now is from Uruguay, Audaz Como El Amor.
Still part way through side 2 but so far, no sign of EXP! Side 1 opens with Desde Los Cielos [Up From The Skies] even tho' EXP is listed as track 1 on the rear sleeve!

Interesting. Looks like they dropped the whole "Axis" part in the translation and just went with "Bold As Love". Same with "Up From The Skies" (it's just "From The Skies").

Glad someone has a better grasp of languages than me! Ha ha.
Was going to do a translation of what was on the cover but I don't need to now do I?

    Thanks

I knew that Spanish minor in college would come in handy someday :righton:. I'll confess I had to look up "Audaz", as "Bold" is not a word you use every day!

A bit off topic but I would like to recommend "Are You Experienced" by The Animals from the album "Wind Of Change " (1967) great homage with guitar and vocals very similar to the Hendrix trio.

How did I not learn of this until now..? I only have a few Animals compilation CDs plus their first and last LPs though and always intend looking for more. Such a fantastic band. Oh well, just another thing that managed to slip me by!

I'd not say it was off-topic at all because I and others do mention when we're just playing singles and so on. :righton:

Will do. :agree: And yes - that's on this, that I have. Eric Burdon And The Animals* - The Best Of Eric Burdon And The Animals 1966-1968 GREAT CD. Plus of course, Jimi is mentioned on the actual Winds Of Change track itself, also included there.

This also has the Monterey track... forgot I recently added it to the collection so I decided to play it right now:

This is a great collection of The Animals 2nd incarnation, ie no Alan Price. BTW on that Winds Of Change album there's another reference to JH (and Clapton ) on the song It's All Meat.

I have a habit of picking up lps Jimi had in his own collection...Bill Cosby's Revenge and EB and The Animals' The Twain Shall Meet recently. Splendid psych :).

Also records with tenuous Hendrix connections...Lonnie Youngblood's Sweet Sweet Tootie is highly recommended (no Jimi does not play on it).

Live at the LA Forum 4-25-1970. I really love this performance even with bootleg sound quality. I think this is the best live version of Hey Baby New Rising Sun! Wish this had been professionally recorded
