Jimi at Berkeley set one. 48 years ago today. From the Rattlesnake set. Also wearing the unofficial t shirt.
recently listened to 'both sides of the sky' again.....what a horrible album, did they simply pluck the guitar solos off of other records? because i swear that i've heard every one them before. and version of 'woodstock' with still doesn't even have a guitar anywhere on it! hendrix plays bass. (which, personally, i believe stills plays better.
They are not bad particularly First Rays boot. I recently got "Before and after" with Woodstock rehearsals and it is mostly very bad.
I was actually just listening to that yesterday, it's a pretty cool version. Not sure it belongs on a Hendrix album, but cool nonetheless. The Mannish Boy solo is the same on as on :blues, and to me that's the one where it seems clumsily edited in, otherwise the mixing of takes is pretty smooth. I don't think they flew anything in for this album, except possibly the opening to Linda, which I don't recognize from those sessions.
If we see something relatively comprehensive for the ELL 50th (not holding my breath, but holding out hope), then MAYBE there's hope for a full Jimi Plays Berkeley set: three CDs (rehearsals/first set/second set) and both cuts of the film. MAYBE...
Not sure where to put this so maybe here is ok. Import CDs has Burning Desire and Morning Symphony Ideas in stock for about 10.00 bucks each. Its also listed on Ebay but those are about 5.00 bucks more.
All Along The Watchtower / Foxy Lady Old Gold. Details on updated pages here …………… 45 RPM and here ……………………….. 45 RPM Pg 2
Hey Gordon does the UK Track black on white text 7" of Purple Haze just denote an early pressing with colours accidentally reversed? Either way it sounds hot!
I heard the white label's were the first pressings but its easy to make a story up!! Its hard to know how or why the label was produced this way after all this time! It is possible that as these were the first actual Track Records issued there was a degree of confusion at the printers! So, the run of labels may have been halted and changed for the correct coloured one, that does at least support the story of first pressings off the stamper. Taking of hot [I assume you mean cut hot], the Barclay 1st pressing of AYE is hot and overly hot on at least two tracks!
Raw guitar tones leap out at you in a good way, best i have heard though i have a uk mono Smash Hits that works for me too.
Managed to get West Coast Seattle Boy and Winterland Boxes last November for $15 each and still digesting those.
BBC sessions - picked up the CD for $5 at Walmart. How odd is that? The liner notes are also excellent reading.
Currently listening to this. I couldn't find a CD of it anywhere so I downloaded it from iTunes. It's pretty good although there are a couple of tracks I skip over (Manic Depression is a little weird). Since I don't have liner notes I am not sure who plays on this track. Perhaps Eric Gales? Larry Lee?
Same here, grabbed BBC and South Saturn Delta for 5 bucks each at Walmart (although the $5 bins are gone now and the CD's are in racks kind of like a tornado went thru there). I also saw Joe Satriani "Surfing W The Alien" for 5 bucks. Went back the next day to get it and couldn't find it.
One of those at one time ubiquitous "cash-in" cheap session LPs. Contains one track Hendrix certainly didn't play on but it's great in it's own right...
AYE in stereo and mono. Would be nice to have this on SACD (*AHEM*), but had to settle for a rocked teacher's version.
