If you are using a media player to play audio (and/or video) files, which do you use? Please also post to the thread to comment on whether you like or dislike it, and why, and whether you use your software for anything other than playing audio (e.g. library management, playing video, etc.). If you also use different software for ripping CD's, tag/metadata management, and library management, please note those products as well.

I will start: I use MediaMonkey for audio playback and library/tag management. I use dBpoweramp for ripping. I'm generally very happy with both, particular with MM4's new feature that sorts the library into Music and Classical Music, as it enables more efficient searching.

    Thanks for participating.

Musicbee is just so easy to use & laid out in a logical & intuitive fashion, nearly a "Media Player for Dummies" simplicity. Works great with my Sansa Clip.

Rats, I knew I'd forget an important one. I tried -- I even looked stuff up and included "Banshee," even though I'd never even heard of it, let alone heard of anyone using it. :)

If a Gort is reading, can we amend the poll to include Winamp? Thank you

I use WMP (via Windows Media Center) because it is the most convenient for my home theater.

I tried Foobar but found that the fancy UI required a lot of CPU cycles. My DVR is running from tiny Dell system and it lacks the horsepower for that. When I use the standard Foobar interface it is impossible to read the screen (small LCD) from 14' away on the couch. If I could find an easy way to increase the font size used by Foobar, I would probably switch back.

I voted for Foobar because I'm switching over from iTunes (currently ripping all of my cds to FLAC).

I use J River Media Center for both playback and library management and tagging. Great library management for a largish collection that contains classical and rock. Playback is great with support for both ASIO and WASAPI. VST plugin support for software EQs and analyzers.

Ripping is usually with EAC with CUETools. I also use dBpoweramp for ripping if I have a stack of CDs to do (it's faster to get through the stack using dBpoweramp than EAC with CUETools). dBpoweramp is also a better choice for classical CDs.

VLC for all video and most audio playback, though I use AudioGate if I need to convert DSD to PCM, or other format convertion, or compile CDs/experiment with the running order. The only thing I used Windows for was ripping sound clips from CDRs and converting them to mp3, I use EAC to rip CDs and IMGBurn or AudioGate to burn discs.

Used to use MediaMonkey but recently switched to James River.
    It handles hi res better.
dbPowerAmp for ripping duties and Cattrax for cataloging.

Not sure if it counts as a media player, but since I listen to most of my computer audio through my Squeezebox Touch connected to my stereo I selected "Other" for Squeezebox Media Server. I rip my CDs to FLAC using dBpoweramp, check tags and organize with Foobar, and edit tags with MP3tag. The limited times I do listen to music on my computer I use Foobar and VLC (radio streams). The only thing I use iTunes for is transferring lossy files (a mix of MP3 and AAC) to my iPod.
