    Here is Paul McCartney arriving at Wembley for the 1968 FA Cup final between Everton and West Bromwich Albion. ...

    And looking a bit discouraged at having some fool try to touch his hair.

    Again.

    Looking over the articles, it seems to summarize as:

    - John likely supported Liverpool as a boy but wasn't really all that into football;
    - Paul likes both Liverpool and Everton, but if pressed admits that he has stronger roots with Everton;
    - George has a funny quote--"there are three teams in Liverpool, and I support the other one"--which I think means he doesn't like football at all;
    - Ringo went to Arsenal matches as a boy with his stepfather and presumably that was his team, although his sons support Liverpool.

    None seem to really care that much about football.

    Football is a North Liverpool sort of thing, The Beatles were all from South Liverpool.
    Tranmere Rovers is a foreign team.

    And if I am not mistaken, the fellow next to Paul with the glasses and moustache is his buddy Ivan Vaughan.

    One of the things I like most about the Beatles is their utter indifference to sport in general (George's motor-racing fixation notwithstanding) and football in particular. McCartney's idea of supporting two teams who hate each other demonstrates that he just didn't get it.

    'Soccer-mad' Hunter Davies was very disappointed when he realised that, as far as the 'beautiful' (read: ugly) game went, they didn't give a toss.

    Q: "Fellas, I know Europe soccer is the big sport. Do you have any favorite sport here in America, such as Baseball or American football?"

    JOHN & RINGO: "We don't like ANY sport."

    PAUL: "Very unsporting, really. Smoking is a sport."

    Paul:

    “Here’s the deal: my father was born in Everton, my family are officially Evertonians, so if it comes down to a derby match or an FA Cup final between the two, I would have to support Everton.

    “But after a concert at Wembley Arena I got a bit of a friendship with Kenny Dalglish, who had been to the gig and I thought ‘You know what? I am just going to support them both because it’s all Liverpool and I don’t have that Catholic-Protestant thing.

    “So I did have to get special dispensation from the Pope to do this but that’s it, too bad. I support them both.

    “They are both great teams.

    “But if it comes to the crunch, I’m Evertonian.”

    Does that mean Noel Gallagher supported Man City before knowing whether The Beatles supported them first? That's mad.

    Sorry mate that's absolute nonsense.

    Jimmy Case (Garston)
    Steve McMahon (Halewood)
    Peter Reid (Huyton)
    Steve Gerrard (Whiston)
    John Aldridge (Garston)
    Ian Callaghan (Toxteth)

    Generally speaking I don't think musicians tend to play much sport - that's why they're musicians. They were probably sitting in their bedrooms composing music and practising while most other kids were out playing football.

    Whiston and Huyton are not South Liverpool. So, a grand total of four players out of the last 40 years are from South Liverpool. And what do you think that proves exactly? The remaining 230 players were from North Liverpool (or elsewhere- NOT South Liverpool).
