The 1984 discs were the first ones I had. Until I picked up the original vinyl, which was about a decade later, these were the "official" versions for me. I remember reading the liner notes but I must have forgotten the part where it said they were overdubbed, I recall at the time thinking that they (the bass especially) sounded so modern! I particularly loved those long dramatic bass notes during the grand piano intro to Absolutely Free. Some people are against overdubbing of classic works but I can really enjoy what was done with Money, especially given the fact that (I assume anyways) Zappa must have been the one who approved the overdubs. Today I enjoy both versions equally but I find the 1984 disc is still my "go-to" for the "official" version.
you shoulda noticed something ... when Arthur plays the "My Sharona"-riff on his bass, at the end of "Flower Punk"!
I didn't notice it until it was pointed out years later, I think it was on the Wikipedia page where I first read it. Now it sticks out every time I hear it....
Disc Two of....: I, for one, LIKE the version of "Porn Wars" on this BETTER than the "....Prevention" album! ...but, then again, I Love NEGATIVLAND...... 'so, I go THAT goin' for me.'
...it’s “Frank Friday”!! NP: Joe’s Garage, 2012 UMe CD ...makes for great morning music. IMO Happy Friday for all us workin’ stiffs.
...played thru Joe’s twice. Now onto- Läther, 1996 Rykodisc 3CD Anyone who owns the 2012 UMe and the ‘96 Ryko ever compare the two soundwise?
Studio Tan at the mo. Obsessing over Greggery Peccary - particularly over the ‘stenopool’ section aka Farther Oblivion which is one of my top 5 Zappa tracks
Currently listening to the 1987 remix of "Son Of Mr. Green Genes" on YouTube and reloading Lumpy Money to my computer, since my old computer broke. I don't feel like starting a new thread for this - is the 2012 Zappa Records CD of Lumpy Gravy (ZR 3836) the original 1968 mix? The CD lists the source as the 1993 digital master but I think I remember reading somewhere that it is indeed the original mix. Can someone confirm?
