His gnarly fretboard pyrotechnics on "200 Years Old" and in collaboration with Don Van Vliet on Bongo Fury. "This is the life." - siyt

Friday Frank . . . A fantastically packaged triple LP . . . Side 6/F — "Watermelon In Easter Hay" . . . Sublime . . . 1979/2016 (Zappa Official Release #28 & #29) Zappa Records – ZR3861-1
The Zappa photo thread running now lit my fire a bit, so I bought half a dozen 1982-1991 albums (well, okay, 2012 CD editions of the same) that I'd never gotten around to. Not Zappa's best period, to be sure, but plenty to enjoy and admire anyway. Sort of underrated is my current assessment of Tinsel Town and Ship Arriving. I guess the lazy tendency is to suppose that if a major artist is off-peak, by wide consensus, and has a few embarrassments in the period, then the whole output of the period must be terrible. In Zappa's case anyway, this would plainly mistake the case. Anyway, my current spin is Guitar. Coming up: Them or Us, Broadway and Make a Jazz Noise.
