Maybe it’s the mode I’m listening to it in, but I feel the 2014 Mono Vinyl beats the Blu Ray Mono, hands down. I think listening to the 2014 Mono is more like an event and I don’t hear anything on the BR that makes it feel special. How does everyone else feel?

The blu ray mono is by far the best version of that mix I've ever heard.

What kind of equipment are you listening to it on and which setting are you listening to it in? PCM or one of the Surround modes?

The Blu-Ray Mono not only sounds great, but no flipping sides & you get the new stereo remix and 5.1 included. A real deal!

Still not sure if it beats the 2014 mono vinyl as far as sound quality goes. But that's what i'm trying to find out, if i'm listening on my receiver in the correct setting

My equipment is on my profile. The key part is my Elac F5's. I didnt listen to EVERY mono track, mostly side 3 because of all the rockers on that side. I have a 2014 mono pressing that I play on an MMF 5.1 table with a 10x5 dynavector cart. As with any mono vinyl, I pan both tracks to center when listening.

I listened on the Elacs, soft and loud, and on a really nice set of Denon headphones I've owned for some years.

The 2014 vinyl was my go to until the WA 50 mono arrived. At 96/24, it just outperforms my vinyl. I can hear mastering details I never heard before. I love my table, but it just can't match the blu ray detail.

And what kind of blu ray player ? Mine is a Sony Ubp-X800 and I wonder if it's good enough to have the same experience as you have.
Just recently I came to like better my WA 2014 mono vinyl much better, when I listened to it through headphones in stead of speakers. So much more depth.

It's really not about the blu ray player if you are using HDMI output. My amp does the D/A, and does a nice job of it. I could use the world's cheapest blu ray player and it would sound the same.

I used to use audio outputs from my blu ray player, and came to understand how deficient that was. Spent my money on the amp then, rather than upgrade the blu ray.

    And the other equipment ?
How else can we determine if it's the source (record vs. blu ray) or the equipment ?

Thanks, that's good to know my plaer is OK.

My amp does the D/A, too. But it doesn't have a HDMI input.
    So I use:
    1. a coax cable between the Sony and the amp.
    or
    2. a HDMI from Sony to tv and an optical cable from tv to amp.

I don't hear difference in sound quality between the coax cable vs. HDMI with optical cable.

I think I'd have to listen to the 2014 Mono once more to get a better impression of it because based on my listen of the Blu-ray my initial reaction is that it's more comparable to the Mono Vinyl than the Mono CD. At first it wasn't that impressive but as the album played out it felt like it had some real kick to it's sound.

Isamet. Please could you fill out your equipment profile as per our forum rules if you are going to discuss sound quality?

The Dyna 10x5 just isn't the detail retriever. It's there on the record, but a better cartridge would help matching what you're hearing on the Blue Ray in terms of detail.

On the other hand, which one might be more musically engaging is another story. I have yet to play my BluRay copy, but my BluRay player, the Oppo BD103, is not as good as my analog playback (Perhaps the BD105 would have been a better match, but I bought the BD103 for its video capabilities). The BD103 player delivers detail, but it's not as musically engaging.

You should have purchased the BD 105 for its upgraded analog DAC’s instead.
