Isn't Harold Jenkins the correct answer to the question?

 

One could make that case based on the initial 3 clues ... since Harold didn't change his name to Conway Twitty until sometime in '57 before his first record was released on Mercury ... but had Mike not guessed "my identity", the subsequent clues would have applied to Conway Twitty.

If you like his music ... I highly recommend Bear Family's "Conway Twitty, The Rock 'N' Roll Years" box set ... I bought a new copy on eBay for $60 about a year ago from the executor of Twitty's estate ... I don't know if he is still selling copies ... I watched him sell at least 10 over a couple of months before I bought mine.
