Just a quickie thread detour here: Speaking of Keaggy...
How's the Glass Harp stuff? I have always wondered about that.
There's a couple pieces on eBay now including a really expensive one from a seller I quite like. Is it a good listen or more of a novelty/collector thing?
We now return you to your regularly scheduled thread
    Thanks!

I think the Glass harp stuff has two things going for it.

1 Great songs, good melodies and lyrics.

2 great musicians. Good Drums good Bass, and Amazing guitar playing.

I like all three albums but

My fav songs are Southbound, (killer harmony) Synergy (good syncopation and Phil Keaggys amazing Guitar - violin sound) Accomplished by turning the volume on the guitar off, then striking the note, then quickly but smoothly ramping the volume up. He did this by curling his pinky around the Les Paul volume knob and he does this in a split second. Very Cool. The result is a violin like sound because the "attack" on the note is not heard. Only the actual not "volume swelled in".

I have a lot of respect for Jonathan Richman. Talk about someone who follows his own muse. It doesn't even bother me that "Ice Cream Man" is being used in commercials for Kohls or Target or whatever. :)

I had the opportunity to drive Charlie Pride around Dallas one day. He was great. They don't get more humble than he is. He gave me tow autographed albums and let me take his photo. Pretty cool guy

I respect Les Paul a whole bunch as well. The How High The Moon CD on ASV is essential as to why his guitar work is so influential. I also respect Chet Atkins as well.

In addition to my earlier list, I'd like to add the late, great NINA SIMONE. Despite all her health issues and problems, she stuck to her guns and did it her own way. One fine lady...

Then there is MILES DAVIS...the BEATLES, ELVIS, et al....the list is endless, but life is all the richer for their music. :)

Dave Grohl seems to have his thing together.

Michelle Shocked impresses the hell out of me as a performer and, from the limited interviews I've seen or read, as a person.

All three of the members of Rush are just fabulously talented and committed musicians.

I've heard a lot of nice stories about Eric Dophy's generosity towards and praise of his colleagues. Taj Mahal always gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling. Famous musicians biting the hand that feeds them don't impress me too much. Respect? Well, for all the rogues, scoundrels, outlaws, renegades and what have you of jazz who have never gotten their due, they certainly command my respect for keeping the music alive.

Joan Osborne (OF COURSE)- Keeping real signing alive for those who don't want digestible radio pop.

Yo Yo Ma- For being a incredibly talented performer and a musician who brings out the best in others he plays with. Not afraid to try all genre's of music where he's instrument fits in. Finally he's a great ambassador about classical music, to younger kids and those who aren't really in the know about classical music.

Itzhak Perlaman- See above for the same things. Plus the fact he's been doing it longer, conducts the whole shebang and has overcome that hurdle of his health. Just as an aside, classical concerts are usually very reserved with the applause at the end of the total performance or movement. I was fortunate to see Mr. Perlman receive a 15 minute standing ovation. That was an amazing experience.

Wynton Marsalis- Beyond his considerable musical talent, and I don't want to get into a debate about that opinion, he has made jazz cool, fresh, classy and helped it get whatever small new group of listeners it could. Also, he is a great ambassador about jazz to children and those who aren't in the know about jazz.

    There are many more...
