Buddy Miller. Saw him in the 90s with Emmylou live, great understated player. His duet albums with his wife are so cool. The dual self titled one has some great, to me, guitar playing. And he is an excellent producer. I've seen him a couple of times on his own and he's great. But, kind of like XTC i wish he'd jam a little more. He's more of Keith Richards type i think. Great player.
I would say Nils Lofgren is a bit undervalued as a guitarist and an artist. Being the proud owner of his tremendous box set(one of the best ever)and following him since the beginning his skills as a guitarist are amazing both when it comes to technical virtuosity, invenivness and expression. Imo he is up there with the very best. Also a great singer, a great songwriter and entertainer. A true legend.
I’ve been recently listening to a lot of Spirit and I think the great Randy California is generally underrated, but perhaps not on this forum.
