You want bad lyrics, listen to MC Hammer's version:

Pete Seeger has done lots of narrative talking in his music and did a great job with it.

Yes, I hate it when other people talk while I'm trying to listen to songs...

This is about songs where they have spoken parts in songs or are entirely recited ala Walter Brennan, Red Sovine, etc.

Why is this board so anti-rap?

Which is why I hate drum solos too. No notes? Just rhythm? Not interested in the least.

Start a new thread. I could tell you a whole bunch of my reasons but I don't want to derail the thread.

Drum solos can also be accompanied by melody and harmony, the point is the main instrument at the time is rhytmic. Even if it isn't your thing, I don't understand how you can deny it as music. Good idea though! I will start a new thread tonight or tomorrow :)

Drums are a great, beautiful, and challenging instrument to play well and in the context of the song, to serve it well. Love it when that happens. If it's the only thing plodding along though, it's challenging to not skip the rest of the track. The only moment I dislike on the Beano album is the drum solo on track 6... for instance.

Yeah, even though I can at times disagree, I get you when you say that drums by themselves can get tedious.

I'm pretty sure I started a thread asking about the board's preference on hip-hop last night. I don't see it now, so either it was removed and I wasn't told, or it was so late at night that I dreamt it.

It was probably removed. My guess is it wouldn't be the first time this topic was broached and frankly, rap & hip-hop are polarizing genres to begin with. It's almost the complete opposite of what most people listen to here which tends to be classic rock. I'm sure it wouldn't take much to ruffle some people's feathers.

My theory was that it might have been seen as forum discussion and belonged on another board than the Music Corner. I messaged a Gort to find out :)

:disgust::oops: It is not the least bit surprising that this is the only track on the entire album that never made an appearance on the TV program:

As Strat says, rap is polarizing here. Some old timers hate it and refer to it as (c)rap while others get offended by their dislike. Shame really.

If you get our amplifier fixed, I can play you that Lauryn Hill record and I can finally show you what all the hype is about :)

I can probably count the number of instances where it actually works on one hand. And a few of the ones I think of ("Rocky Raccoon," "Far Away Eyes", "California Saga: Big Sur") are among the worst things those bands ever did.
