    And what is it?

In my house, Zappa and Budgie are headphones-only territory, with King Crimson and Van Der Graaf close behind.

I imagine almost everybody has at least a few artists/titles in their collection that they have to listen to when nobody else is home. For me, it's anything by AC/DC, Ted Nugent and Bob Seger.

The answer is to play songs from the wood to make you feel much better than you do now...

Quite a bit of music I can only play when the Mrs. is out. Metal and Punk especially. Even if I put on something like The Damned it's still "making my blood pressure go up!"....ugh

Or this. The Mrs won't like that Doro woman or the music. One to play when she is at the PTA meeting.

I have lots of free jazz and improv, Sunn O))), some Wolf Eyes, GY!BE etc etc - so pretty much everything. I don't think she's ever passed comment in anything I'm listening to though - not a great music lover my other half...

Boy, I can totally relate with you Dave. My wife despises everything I play. And I'm not even talking about the more heavy duty experimental music I like. It can be melodic and quite basic in verse-chorus-verse song structure like "Sunday Morning" by The Velvet Underground or "Matte Kudesai" by King Crimson. I think that the only song she ever liked that I played was "Paris 1919" by John Cale. I have better luck with my guitar playing 8 yr. old who doesn't mind listening to Swans, Captain Beefheart and likes the PG rated songs I will play for her by The Velvet Underground and ***** Galore. With both, I would never ever consider playing anything like Merzbow or "Metal Machine Music" by Lou Reed.

My wife is actually a bigger Zappa fan than I am, although luckily both of us agree that everything went to hell around '72.

    Phil Collins and Billy Joel.

My wife, on the other hand, collects Van Der Graaf Generator, Peter Hammill, anything Steven Wilson-related and King Crimson.

I like her stuff, she doesn't like mine so much. :D

Heart, Fleetwood Mac. I don't think she really likes The Beatles either.
Pere Ubu doesn't go over well at all.
Zappa's okay if it's not too crude.
80's is her 70's so there's a little generation gap.
    Most 60's are out.
    Stones and Skynyrd we're good.
    Replacements and Nirvana too.
    Enough common ground.

I finally found some Beastie Boys that my wife likes so that's finally off the do not play list.
Now the main ones would be Pink Floyd, Digital Underground and mid 70s Miles Davis.
Most of the rest of my favorites she's pretty into.

Save for things along the limes of The Beatles, i can pretty safely say that my wife dislikes nearly everything I play. I once put on side two of Fragile by Yes which opens with the quirky 5% For Nothing...she looked at me and said, "what is this c***p??"

I don't hear her humming along to Tull, ELP or Zeppelin either (maybe some Elton or Chicago). That said, *none* of the music I play is listened to in a "hidden" manner. Like it or not, it's a part of the house walls.
