Impossible to pick a fave, but I think Bowie could pretty much sing the pants offa anything....sometimes literally as well as figuratively.

I don't like to play favourites, but Otis is one of them. What an amazing talent!

For male singers, there's quite a few and it's very hard for me to choose. Paul McCartney, Eric Stewart, Kevin Godley, Elton John (70s), Alice Cooper, Damon Albarn, Steven Wilson, Noel Gallagher, and many more. But for female singers I'm gonna have to go with Sonya Madan from Echobelly. Her voice was fantastic in the 90s, and is still wonderful and unchanged in 2017 on Echobelly's newest album.

Same here until about 1980. I didn't care for much of his music after that. Just the odd song off every album since. But between 1962 and 1980, he's by far my fav!

Although Led Zeppelin is my favorite band, I'd have to say Freddie Mercury.

Sam Cooke. He was just too much. Maybe only Elvis was up to him

As much as I love Ella, I'll go with Jo Stafford. Her voice takes me back to a simpler time, not a time I ever lived in, but one I think I'd like to be in sometimes.

Diamanda Galas, but I can only listen to her in small doses. And then Albert Kuvezin from the band Yat-Kha also comes to mind.

Far and away for me, Johnny Cash. What a great voice, and versatile too!

After that, Paul McCartney, David Gilmour, Dusty Springfield, and... Harriet - she's a recent pop singer who sounds a lot like Karen Carpenter, and, in my opinion, even better!

    All four Beatles?
    Brian Wilson?
    Carl Wilson?
    Al Anderson?
    Harry Nilsson?
    Dion DiMucci?
    Bob Dylan? (Yes, Bob Dylan)

Too hard to pick one ... and I know I'm forgetting lots of other greats ...

    'Who's' Rodger Daltry.

    Couldn't really think of one.
Just having fun, again, here at SHMF!
Tho i like Daltry's tone, range, control, & power

he is usually singing some one (Who's?) else's lyrics, yet he makes them his own.

Actually like Hendrix [?!?!] as a vocalist; cause his adds all those other 'noises', along w/the emotional connection to the material [+ Jimi played in the key he sang in].
Kinda like, i bet, Bob Zimmerman is for a lot of fans. Would be shocked if some one said "Best Voice Ever" for Dylan; however his voice moves his fans like no other!

Agree w/the OP's choice of Sir Macca; range & styles are great.

Difficult not to mention the spectacular Ella Fitzgerald.
Or even Satchmo; man, the emotion, man!!
