I'm not high enough for Ring-a-Ding-Ding. "Close To You" is definitive.

Paul McCartney, but with John Lennon a very close second. I think John's vocal style is one of the most emulated of all time.

Really? 5 females who claim influence and 3 contemporaries. She's still not on your list? And you're from Virginia.

In my lifetime, I've surely listened to Linda Ronstadt more than any other. I have more of her records than any other - all of them from the self-titled debut through the Nelson Riddle albums and a few after that. I like the genre; clear and powerful voice for a pop/rock singer; and not all that bad looking.

Honorable mention goes out to Sarah Vaughan.

Tough Choice, my first thought was Frank Sinatra then I thought about Don Williams and the warmth of his voice, so it's a toss up for me. For female singers I'm going with Dusty

I take no credit away from Patsy Cline, but she is not one of my favorite singers I appreciate her and own her music, but I do not listen to her nearly as often as the others.

She's another I could have mentioned, correct (I have a nice 2CD collection of hers). :agree:

And HOW did I miss out Bessie Smith too?! :o

Oh yes- Sarah Vaughan is another. I actually prefer her to Billie Holiday; though her early recordings are what I do like and have on disc.

Karen Carpenter too. Now I feel ashamed to have missed her off. :sigh:

Vaughan is extremely talented. I actually feel her technique and vocal timbre got better with age.
