Impossible to answer, but here's just a few who always manage to grab my attention:

    Daltrey (when he's good)
Dylan (not the latter day croaking one though)
Dio (has he been mentioned yet?)
Mark E Smith (if we will call him a singer)
    Bon Scott

Easy one for me. The one and only Gladys Knight.

This song makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck. Doesn't hurt that it was written and produced by Curtis Mayfield.

Male singer I would say Paul Rodgers...I'd buy anything that he is on. Even bought the Queen album...even though he really didn't fit in the group. Close second would Midge Ure.

Female singer is tough though. So many GREAT female singers. It would have to be more than one:

Nancy Wilson (The jazz singer...not the one from Heart)
Ann Wilson from Heart. Pure Rock and Roll voice.
Joss Stone. Probably one of THE finest female voices in the last 10 years.

One last one would be Alison Krauss. One of THE sweetest voices out there:

One of my favorite Beatles covers:

Sam Cooke. His singing is perfection. He hits all the right notes, and knows exactly when to pull back or dial it up. And the sound of his voice is just RIGHT. I want for nothing when I hear him sing.

Andy Smith .....Like a good pinch of snuff......

Wow, another toughie. But it's how I feel on the day. Some days Dave Cousins, some days Lee Brilleaux, some days Dave Coverdale.... Other days I wish I could deliver a song as good as Levi Stubbs or Steve Harley. Decisions decisions.... Nope, this one's beaten me. I abstain.
