Quadrophenia. Like my friend told me when he loaned me the CD back in high school, "If you like Who's Next, you'll love Quadrophenia!"

Sort of an unfair comparison, though. Shoulda been Lifehouse vs. Quadrophenia:righton:

I'm listening to both albums just to answer this question. 'Tis a silly question. To ask lacks wisdom. To listen to The Who signifies great wisdom.

Pete talks like everything's going to be a failure...except when it actually is. Those old interviews of his clearly indicates he's always been a get-off-my-lawn guy. If he wasn't, I doubt his material wouldn't have been as great as it is.

As for Who's Next and Quad, that really is a tough call because they're both so damn good. Really enjoy the '85 two-CD MCA and the SH Who's Next. That's not a suck up move to the forum owner; it really is a hell of an excellent sounding version - beefy without going overboard.

Quadrophenia, by a long way. Top to bottom (with the exception of "Helpless Dancer") there isn't a weak song in the bunch. I can't say the same about Who's Next.

Even though Quadrophenia is one of the few double albums I can think of with no subpar moments...
Even though Quadrophenia is sonically superior to Who's Next (as is Tommy IMO)...
Even though I think 'My Wife' is a bit out of place on the album...

    Without a doubt Who's Next!

Going Mobile / Behind Blue Eyes / Won't Get Fooled Again is probably the greatest three-track combination of rock songs anywhere to be found.
And did I mention Baba O'Riley / Bargain / Love Ain't for Keeping? Probably one of the greatest three-track combi... well, you get it.

Its impossible to make a choice - conceived at different times with different concepts and recorded and delivered under multiple different strains and stresses.

They are, both, absolutely perfect in their own right.

Who's Next is, without a doubt, one of the greatest rock albums ever.
Quadrophenia is, without a doubt, one of the most epic rock albums ever.

The winner is whichever one I'm in the mood to listen to at that moment.

  24. Quadrophenia gets just a wee bit more attention from me, but not by any huge stretch.

I absolutely dig The Who beyond explanation.

With weapons, I think Quadrophenia would win.

But, in bare-knuckle fisticuffs, Who's Next would take it!
