I wasnt too thrilled for a sequel to this great movie but after seeing this trailer, Im on board.

The sequence at 1:08 is beautiful with the falling bodies and the tone arm on the record player decending is beautiful! Like the first movie, the soundtrack sounds great (as much as I could gather from the video).

This is my version of the Star Wars revival everyone else was ecstatic over.

It's probably just the trailer, but there seems to be A LOT of quoting the first one. Not a good sign, imo. Hell, they even used the Underworld tune again. What I liked about "Porno" (the book sequel) was, that it took the same characters, but told a totally independent story. But again, it might just be the trailer.

They pretty much rehashed the opening monologue with modern concepts; I dont mind it. The use of Underworld was a bit cliche but it kind of acts a lead for the second part of the trailer. Danny Boyle usually has a great ear for music in his films, so I am hoping this film delivers in that regard.

Havent read "Porno" but this is "loosely" based off the book from what I've read.

I feel like it's a good sign that the careers of most of the key participants -- Danny Boyle, Ewan McGregor, Jonny Lee Miller, Robert Carlyle -- are in healthy (or healthy enough) shape. They're not desperately trying to revive their profiles by rehashing an old success. I don't know to what extent Irvine Welsh was doing that when he wrote his novel sequel (are his books still popular?), but it doesn't seem like the movie is really based on that. So it seems possible they really have a good idea for a sequel.

    But... see McCartney on soufflés.

Surprised not to see more excitement over this?! In my worst Welsh-like Leith-speak:

    "Eh cannae ****in' weet, mon!"

Can't believe I had not heard about the sequel until a few days ago. Both read the book/saw the film upon their original release 20+ years ago and have seen movie god knows how many times since. As much of a fan as I am of most of Welsh's books since, am pleased to hear the sequel is not following Porno. (IW even sounds pleased about that too!)

Thrilled everyone's back for it (including even Shirley Henderson -"Sex, Spud, sex!") and they all sound very proud of the film versus embarrassingly fawning for lucre or acceptance. If they're all so confident, I'm definitely ready to go along for the ride most willingly.

    Bring it!

Looking forward to it. Intrigued to see where the characters have ended up, and the inevitable confrontation between Begbie and Renton.

2 things about the use of Born Slippy. I don't mind them using again as it became associated with the film and both became icons of the era. Second reason, which makes sense too is that Boyle is a good friend of the band and he's hired them to contribute music for many of his films. By plugging the song twenty years later, it'll surely help the band acquire new, younger fans. These kids are in for quite a treat when they start digging through Underworld's catalog.

Saw it yesterday, and while I thought it was a decent sequel, part of me felt they should have left the original film well alone. Visually, it's excellent as you would expect, but narratively it is quite weak, and it's heavy on references from the first film, which has the effect of reminding you how great the original was, and how not so great this film is. There are many laugh out loud moments throughout, and it is the humour which rescues it from a rather weak storyline. Begbie is still a character and a half, but they are older now, and they just cannot repeat the past, and neither can this film, which was the principle flaw for me.

The original was so iconic when it came out. Saying that I watched it last year and it's lost it charm. Still, a interesting bunch of characters. I'll definitely buy T2 DVD.

  14. This doesn't sound so bad IMHO, seeing as the original didn't have much of a story either, being driven as it was by the characters and their situations with Renton and his struggles providing a loose story arc. As long as they don't bollix up the characters and deliver the movie with some style I should be happy.

It's definitely character driven. You certainly won't be disappointed on that score.

Super excited. Can't believe Francis is still alive :) I think I have the book, lost somewhere in the move, I should find it and get it read before the move.

Are you a time traveler? Either way, reading the book before the move seems like a good move.

I flat out loved it...packs an emotional punch too aswel as being very funny. Maybe Im the perfect age for it as (35) the first film is a massive part of my teenage years.

    Five stars..

My advice don't bother, it solely lives off the original, big disappointment, it only works as a trailer for 1. My advice would have been, they all die of a drug overdose in the first 10 minutes, then we can all go home, turkey:-popcorn::cry:.

Know I'm in the minority but I really enjoyed the sequel. I assume the pretty mixed reviews are the reason why it took so long to finally get released Stateside - the date kept getting pushed back. Definitely some big weaknesses plot-wise and in the (thankfully very few) moments where the film actively tried to reprise scenes from the first as they really felt forced. No point whatsoever in bringing back Kelly Macdonald - bit of a wasted chance that to me - and Shirley Henderson could've stood a few more lines as well: Begbie's missus had more than the pair of them!

That said, the overall feel and sentiment of the story really resonated with me and thought the main four characters were fleshed out well and fairly believably (though I think Robert Carlyle got the short end of the stick just a wee bit on that front). The performances of all were great - Ewen Bremner again outstanding. It's such a different film, it's really unfair to compare them and I can certainly understand why many consider it a letdown. I know I won't watch it nearly as many times as I've seen the first (despite already having the Blu-ray on preorder) but it will get watched again every so often. Two sides of the same coin in my mind, and now impossible for me to think of one without the other...which I don't consider a bad thing.

I thought it was ... okay. It wasn't an embarrassing misfire, but neither did it make a case for itself as an indispensable continuation of the story, the way, say, Before Sunset did with Before Sunrise. It was enjoyable enough to watch but couldn't help but seem underwhelming compared to the original movie, although I think they knew that and weren't trying to outdo themselves. If like me you're the same age as the characters I think it has more resonance.
