Why are Michael Jackson's vocals low in the mix sometimes?

I just realised I haven't infiltrated Olivia into this thread yet. I must be slipping! Anyway, I think this is from early 1983 when Michael was still black.

"Keep the Faith" is OK until the chorus gets all Mormon Tabernacle in the second half. Then I just wanted to shut it off.

I understand, but I can't help it. I really love the sugary ballads (HTW, WYBT & GTS). Would like a classic Michael love song on there though. Maybe "For All Time" or "Someone Put Your Hand Out".

Sorry but I didn't even make it to the second half. It's not worthy of my attention/time.

It's a good one-hour CD. I'd cut the two songs you mention and maybe a couple more.

Btw, you guys know we've hijacked this thread, right? :D

the one time that really sticks out to me is "Tabloid Junkie". There's no way you can tell what he's saying in the verses.

I had no idea HTW was so hated, lol.

Considering how this has pretty much morphed into a Dangerous thread, I might as well post my personal tracklisting for the album:

    Disc 1 -

    1. Dangerous
    2. Jam (it segues PERFECTLY from Dangerous!)
    3. Monkey Business
    4. In The Closet
    5. She Drives Me Wild
    6. Do You Know Where Your Children Are?
    7. Can't Let Her Get Away
    8. Heal The World
    9. Who Is It
    10. Keep The Faith

    Disc 2 -

    1. Slave To The Rhythm
    2. Dangerous (Early version)
    3. Remember The Time
    4. If You Don't Love Me
    5. Serious Effect
    6. Why You Wanna Trip On Me
    7. Gone Too Soon
    8. Give In To Me
    9. Black Or White
    10. Someone Put Your Hand Out
    11. Will You Be There

If anyone's interested, I'll post my 2-disc version of Invincible. I actually made it into a pretty enjoyable double album rather than a mediocre single :)

He's a nice guy. I hope he continues to find $20 notes for the rest of his life!

I'm a broke college kid - those $20s would sure come in handy!

Nice tracklist. 10 or 11 songs per disc is less wearing!

I actually prefer Invincible to Dangerous, so please post your version when you get the chance.

I admit to being a pirater. I need gas money. One day, I will gladly collect everything I have. I do actually feel bad about it because I really enjoy collecting and physically getting what I can, but a broke 19 year old that can't find a job and whose life is music has to make a moral compromise somewhere.... :/

It just comes off as failed attempt to recapture the magic of "We are the World".
I like your inclusions of his outtakes from the Dangerous era. :) My favorite of those is "Someone Put Your Hand Out" & "Serious Effect".
Are you also a fan of his J5/Jacksons work?

Ok :) Yea, I saw there were a number of Dangerous and Invincible outtakes on some of the recent posthumous releases, so I figured instead of keeping them as their own, overlong single-discs, perhaps I could even things out a bit. I literally could never listen to Invincible before without getting bored fast but I actually quite enjoy it now. Here it is:

    Disc 1 -
    1. Unbreakable
    2. Heartbreaker
    3. Invincible
    4. Break Of Dawn
    5. The Way You Love Me
    6. Heaven Can Wait
    7. You Rock My World
    8. Butterflies
    9. Speechless
    10. 2000 Watts
    11. You Are My Life
    12. Shout

    Disc 2 -
    1. XSCAPE
    2. Privacy
    3. Don't Walk Away
    4. Cry
    5. The Lost Children
    6. Whatever Happens
    7. Chicago
    8. A Place With No Name (anyone else hear the blatant ripoff of "Horse With No Name"?)
    9. Blue Gangsta
    10. Fall Again
    11. Threatened.

    :)

Yea, as I posted in my Invincible post, there were a good amount of quality extras for both Dangerous and Invincible. I think both albums are overlong as single discs so why not try to make a "complete" package, so to speak while also evening things out. :)

I've not personally explored the J5 stuff that much although I really do like what I have heard a lot. I only seriously got into MJ about 6 months ago and the J5 are a whole other beast. Definitely I will be checking them out though. :)

As far as I remember, all of the outtakes are included on XSCAPE.

The album comes with a bonus disc that features the original, un-pothumously-mixed tracks which is awesome. They fit completely in with the rest of the material perfectly. Definitely worth checking out.

Actually, as it is, the posthumous XSCAPE album is really enjoyable.

I don't know early Jackson 5 that well, but try Destiny and Triumph first. Recorded either side of Off The Wall. Some great stuff on there AND they're nice and short!

How do you feel about HIStory? I've gotten into that one lately.

I can't help it. It's so easy on the ears. Do you also enjoy it Bobby?

I would suggest checking out a few on Youtube. :) If it's too much legwork I can always post links.
