Why aren't there more knockout Neil Young cover songs?

fantastic, reminds me of the temptations doing 'smiling faces'

Dissagree, I think the mentioned Nicolette Larson Lotta Love is right up there, probably more famous than Neils own version (basically made her career) , and maybe Love is a Rose by Linda Ronstadt

Of course J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr does a good Neil cover. He sings like Neil and tears it up on the guitar. Cortez The Killer.

I thought of Montreal did an amazing job with their cover of "Expecting to Fly".

Don’t know if Jason Isbell has been mentioned, but he frequently does Neil Young covers in his shows.

  15. I actually heard Loop's cover of "Cinnamon Girl" on AM radio once. It's not a million miles from the original, mind you.

I've seen a Patti Smith cover posted here but not this one. It works well with her, I think.

    Great material to begin with!
Of Montreal is one of these countless indie bands for which I got more of a vibe than anytbing else - i often don't remember their songs. I don't know why it happens so often. Like I'm going to enjoy something by The War on Drugs (or insert other names here) while it lasts. But it doesn't stay.Of course this song is different...

His musical muse, Randy Bachman, does a great cover version of "The Loner".

The Black Crowes have done a few over the years - Pardon My Heart, Ohio, Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, Alabama, Come On Baby Let's Go Downtown, LA, Big Time.

Their solo endeavours have also meant some great Neil Covers, including Cortez, Albuquerque, Don't Cry No Tears, Revolution Blues, Are You Ready For The Country, This Note's For You, Walk On, Vampire Blues, Look Out Joe, Barstool Blues amongst them.

Here's a personal favourite (I was standing on the rail in front of Marc Ford)

    The Black Crowes - Alabama

I remember this one from the 70s, - years before I'd really heard of Neil.

Always thought this was an unlikely band to cover Neil but anyway...
