With regards to the Hybrid Creedence Clearwater Revival SACD's, why did Steve only do 5 of the 7 CCR albums?

I'm mainly curious as to the Pendulum album, it was one of CCR's best!!

    Anyone know why??

    THANKS:)

    Pendulum & Mardi Gras SACDs

Yesterday I sent a message to Acoustic Sounds' Customer Service about the 2 remaining CCR titles that are yet to appear as SACDs.

I received a reply saying they are considering the idea and that my inquiry was counted as a vote in favor. I didn't know they were conducting this "market survey", so I wanted to share this info with you to see if we can make this happen. :)

This is the message I received:

That would be great if APO did this.

Does anyone have any information on any new APO SACD's?

    Kool! :)

We have some other members from London, Ont!

Next time you are in a CD store, look for the MCA $9.99 (non remastered) version of Who's Next. Steve did it when he worked for MCA! Most people like it better than the $18.99 remaster.

    Have fun here! :)

Oh My God! I can't believe that you actually mentioned Who's Next! It's one of my favourite albums of ALL-TIME!:)

Anyways, MCA is releasing Who's Next: Deluxe Addition March 25th, possibly April 1st in Canada, and apparently this will be the first time that the actual ORIGINAL Master Tapes are going to be used, NOT just the "safety copies".

There's a pretty good review of it here:

If you can't wait for the upcoming SACD version, Steve's earlier, DCC gold-disc Pendulum is still available in cutout form at www.musicforasong.com for only $14.99 too.

It may say "Steve Hoffman Forum" up at the top, but this is really the "Who's Next" forum, given the amount of discussion about that album that occurs here. Here's the most recent thread:
    http://www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12083&highlight=whos+next

If you don't want to wade through it all, the gist of it is:
    1. despite the claims of Jon Astley, it is NOT true that the master tape has never been used to produce a CD before. The Steve Hoffman version (still available in Canada) used the original master tape, and possibly other MCA versions did as well.
    2. Lots of us here don't trust Jon Astley, and are skeptical the Deluxe Edition will sound any good, in spite of that review on music tap.

Pendulum is pretty good album, despite some duds. If they don't do Mardi Gras, I hope they at least do Chronicle somewhere down the road (maybe after the other CCR SACD's go out of print). It would be a huge seller, would scoop up the two best songs of Mardi Gras.

I just love the three hit songs on PENDULUM: Hey Tonight, Molina, and Have You Ever Seen The Rain...

It's almost a SIN not to have this in the SACD collection:)!

I know it's not the fault of Steve at all, he didn't make the decision on which albums to do...

Steve used the original master tapes when he mastered Who's Next in the mid-80's although that particular CD is now only available in Canada.

Look for this catalog number - MCABD37217 - on HMV.com if you're interested.

So what's all that talk about the ORIGINAL Master Tapes for Who's Next being "LOST"???

Is that just a myth or something?

Just a marketing gimmick to get people to buy the CD again.

    Convenient, eh??

Don't know if you have a TT (hint: profile) but I thought I saw a copy of the Analong Productions Pendulum LP at a local record store today. It would do in a pinch.

It's just another inaccurate statement from Jon Astley. The master tape has never been used on a CD Astley that was involved with (which means the box set, the 1994 Who's Next with bonus trax, My Generation The Best of the Who, and the Ultimate Collection). Because of that he is assuming (incorrectly) that it's never been used on any CD version. But it actually was used on the Steve Hoffman version from 1984, and possibly also the late-80s MCA version and the MCA gold masterdisc version too.
