Assume same mastering and same quality.

What is it about having to own the music that makes me perceive it differently?

    Is it just me?

Ha, I ask myself this every day.

Especially - why do I continue to pay £7.99 for iTunes downloads which are identical to the files that stream through Spotify.

(I guess the answer is “I want to have the album in the same place as all my other albums and know that nobody’s going to take it away...”)

I'm 100% streaming and don't worry about it at all. Music isn't going away as long as there is money to be made in some form.

For albums I like a lot it's hard to resist the urge to have the artwork and liner notes at hand.

There’s something about owning and handling a physical product, particularly if I’ve had to trawl through several record shops or fairs to hunt it down.

Why does anyone want to pay for something that has no resale value?

Streaming eats data. I have a 64 Gig card on my phone, I have over 1,300 full albums on it. I take my phone everywhere. Bluetooth speakers? No problem. Ear phones? No problem.

For me it is nice having a music library that is not subject to change or subscription. I own it and will always own it, and as long as I have an iPod Classic or some other player, I am perfectly content

Sorry it makes you sad. It's a valid reason to help explain the OP's premise.

I wouldn't know how to play a streamed album in my car (or even on my home stereo).

I could look at hi res photographs by Ansel Adams, Man Ray or Diane Arbus on the internet....but I much prefer to look at and hold their work in high quality prints and books.

Until streaming is consistently equal to cd resolution (or better), and the music being served has wide dynamic range similar to original isues of vinyl or cd albums, streaming is just a fun way to sample muaic.

Don’t get me wrong, I purchase the music I like, but none of it is for resale value. And yes you’re right, there are sadder things in the world but we’re not allowed to talk about them here are we. So that world is beyond us here, don’t pretend.

Becuase I don't like the idea of renting music, especially when I cancel my subscription. Also, the label/artist can yank it off anytime they want to.

To add more, it relies soley on Internet connection (travelling with a phone of course), that buffers every now and then.

When I buy it, I don't have to worry about that nonsense.

    Because Blockbuster is dead.

Because one day the music will not be available because screw you, that's why. And also lawyers.

Because one day the internet might go out and the power won't.

    Lots of good reasons.

    No, it's not just you.
    It IS about perception, some of it;
    it's also about habit.

The question ought to be, why would you not wish to have permanent, secure, dependable access to the music you love?

Music on a streaming service can disappear or be degraded any moment. Or they could be blocked because of regional restrictions. Tidal might go out of business and you're left with hideous Spotify quality. You wake up tomorrow and your favorite albums are gone. There are many, many dangers to renting your music. If you value music, this something you would pay to prevent.
