Ah the classic “I haven’t experienced it so you must be lying” approach.

What does it have to do with my post and does it happen at every show everywhere?

I love Graham Nash for what he did with The Hollies, but I would never go to see him because of his political rantings, ditto a few other artists. I go to gigs to be entertained.

Not sure why you're picking a fight over this, but I truly can't be bothered to continue this dullness.

During his last tour in the USA he played his longest sets ever, with at least a couple of concerts bordering on 4 hours.

    To get back on topic...

Playing a Chuck Berry song for an encore! Seems like most bands did it at one time.

I miss people sharing "a smoke" at concerts.

Haven't seen that in many years, and I can think of a host of good reasons not
to do it today, but it always seemed a very friendly and communal thing when
complete strangers passed joints down the row.

Not that I ever partook, of course!!! :)

When the artist made hilarious comments about the weather while performing their songs. On the Westwood One Superstar Concert Series featuring Robert Palmer I have, the last minute or two of Addicted To Love, he was announcing the current weather conditions. "It's been raining for the last 20 minutes" I wish I could have been there for that one.

I don't go to as many shows as I used to, but I honestly can't remember the last time I attended one where some sort of a racist outburst or a violent row broke out. I guess that I'm not running with the right crowd. Of course, violence and other creepiness at shows should be actively discouraged, though we can't necessarily expect performing musicians to be able to watch like a hawk throughout the entire show. Beyond that, I'm as political as the next guy, but I don't like being preached at and I honestly don't go to rock concerts looking for a lecture about the dangers fascism from someone who may or may not be knowledgeable or insightful on the subject. Let the music do the talking. Of course, some artists are more topical than others and I'm sure that there are still bands who address political issues in one way or another.

When I saw Gerry and The Pacemakers last year, I can honestly say I never saw anyone get groped!

Seriously, I guess it does depend on the type of music. About the most "controversial" thing I ever saw was when the support act to Jerry Lee Lewis (The Polecats) got booed off stage in 1983. Hardly Altamont!

I too would like more bands smashing up their guitars and stuff. Works well for some music.

There are hundreds of bands up and down the country that are still playing original music, doing just that!

So go see bands who aren't dinosaurs playing greatest hits sets. Current bands touring behind current albums play deeper cuts.

unless some audience member is actually perpetrating a crime, the last thing I want out of a group of musicians, is a political lecture.

    I have Facebook for that.
