Have they yet made the perfect DAC? Why are they still trying? (PS- these are both rhetorical questions!)

    Totally agree. Vinyl's achilles heel.

Anyone ever thought that the RIAA equalization process is adding kind of a Dolby / smoothing effect on the sound?
The low frequencies are cut significantly during the cutting process to minimize the size of the groove. Then during playback, the high frequencies are cut to re-equalize to normal.
Just a random guess with no evidence.

The problem with pops and crackles is the amount of effort you have to put into your cleaning routine and gear to minimize or eliminate them. In the old days, you had little choice. These days, you can stick with vinyl and build a system dedicated to it with a proper washer for the records and get pretty good playback. Or like most people, you play CDs or digital files or stream.

Records are for the truly dedicated although I regularly play mine and live with the occasional warts.

Q: Why are audiophiles eagerly anticipating the $2500.00 Shiit Yggdrasil DAC?
A: Because rumor says it may finally make digital files sound as good as a $300.00 vinyl rig!
