Why Is It That Status Quo's Music Is Os Hard To Find In Stores?

Status Quo's catalog is huge since they have been around for so many years but anytime I look for anything from them is music stores I might find one or two titles and that's it. I know you can find them on line easily but I never hardly see anything in Tower or many other stores with deep catalog selections. Their popularity never did quite match the success that they achieved in Europe although I never could understand that either. Some great albums were put out by this band over the years.

I especially like "Hello", "On The Level", & "Piledriver" .

Are there any other "Quo" fans ou there ??

Their PYE material is only too readily available over her in England, and Sanctuary have done a good job, but the Polygram is not as common. Just the usual Best Of, and Rocking All Over The World sounding abominable, just as it did on vinyl.

I can't even name one Status Quo song. Maybe that's an example of why you can't fiind anything in the US.

"When I look up to the sky I see the sun a funny shade of yellow"...

Or something like that. Great 45. Was it on Chess or some weird label over here? Same label as Rotary Connection, wasn't it?

Thanks So Much For The Info Claus ! Since this is a new release I am sure at least Tower will stock it for awhile anyway. I would sure like to see
some of the older releases too though. Most of the titles that I have I bought on Ebay or on line. What a Great band though, It still amazes me how they never received the recognition in the States as they acheived in other countries though.

Favorite Quo tune of mine is "Down Down" followed by "Softer Ride"

I Believe they still have the original line up as they started with too .

Claus, have you heard these remasters? If so, what do you think of the sound quality?

There is a new Status Quo album out in the stores which was put out by Hip-O records. Can't think of the name, but it has all new material.

Changes in band line-up up aside, Status Quo deserves recognition for longevity, if nothing else. I prefer the psychedelic stuff that they recorded before they became boogie rockers (although I would agree that their output as the latter is more consistent).

Next to their hit "Pictures of Matchstick Men", my favorite Status Quo track from that period would have to be the "I Am the Walrus"-inspired "You're Just What I'm Looking for Today".

I remember that there are two different versions of "Pictures Of Matchstick Men". The good mono version that was on my original 45 and I guess a stereo version that is missing the Wah-wah guitar which really sucks. I heard that version on one of those old "History Of The British Invasion" double LP's on Sire from the 1970's or so.

I guess the correct mono "hit" version is one of the two on the double CD?

Re: Why Is It That Status Quo's Music Is Os Hard To Find In Stores?

I consider 'Piledriver', 'Hello', and 'On The Level' to be rock classics. Their first US album, 'Messages From The Status Quo', is one of my favorite psychedelic albums from the 60s era. I was into them big time in the mid 70s, but pretty much lost interest in them by the late 70s (around the time drummer John Coglhan left). I even do a Status Quo instrumental medley on guitar, and have plans to build a Parfitt/Rossi Telecaster in the near future.

I've noticed their works don't show up here in the US much any more, but I have LPS and CDS of my favorite Quo material anyhow.

Over here, Staus Quo is a one-hit wonder, in the UK they've been churning out hits for over 30 years. Check Amazon.UK, you'll find plenty of their CDs.

Always liked their version of Fogerty's "Rockin' All Over the World." Fogerty even introduced it in concert by saying "This was a big hit for Status Quo in England, but you never heard it here!"

They played "Rockin'" at LIVE AID. It was a good start to the concert.
