This thread will be, just what the title says...All the news that pretains to Wilco...post anything you feel is relevant. I'll start things off with this... Yesterday's show in Barcelona, Spain was simulcast & available, streaming live, as it happened- sorry forgot to post about it here...but...happily it's been archived- though who knows for how long- by the same station that broadcast it...annoying announcer in between songs, but other than that...as usual the show was a real corker!! WOW!! I've never seen John Prine & I love him...Here's the story...so apparently Wilco WILL be playing somewhere else in the U.S. besides Solid Sound in 2013... Thursday May 30th- Sunday June 2nd. It's 425-450 miles one way from Rochester, NY & a good hour beyond Columbus (where I saw the tour closer this last year)...so that's around 7 hours one way, but could be done in 6 I'm pretty sure. I'll have to see how many shows they are doing in North America & where...and when John Prine is playing in relation to them, before I commit to anything this long...wonder what the full line-up is? But if it ends up just this & Solid Sound on the east coast...well then, count me in... http://woub.org/2012/12/02/2013-nelsonville-music-fest-headliners-announced
Wilco have certainly found their niche, I'll grant them that. I didn't like the last album at all so I'm hoping for something a lot different next time around.
I love each Wilco album in their own way. Great thread! Wilco are coming back down to NZ for a third time in April and I'll be there for a third time, along with my Dad who's a big fan too. Last time they brought Justin Townes Earl as support and he played solo and blew everyone's minds. Then Wilco came on and blew what was left. Best. Live. Act. Ever. (IMO, of course!)
It'd be hard to pick one single greatest live act ever, but...having said that, having seen these guys & being as blown away as I continue to be...IMO, ofo course as well, I can say that I can't think of anyone that I'd say that's greater...so either as great a live act as there's ever been, or the greatest, either one will do...very excited for you with them coming down under to NZ! Have a great time!!!
Felt the same with Ghost when it was released but repeated listens has changed all that. Give it another shot.
Thanks, I will! Actually there have been a couple of their albums which I haven't taken to immediately but then on returning to them a year or so later, realised that they are awesome. Wilco the album didn't grab me until I saw Wilco the band perform most of those songs live. Their performance was literally jaw-droppingly amazing (dueling guitar solos, etc) that I realised how good the album really is.
That's not surprising. As good as their albums are, ( and I love all of them, maybe except AM ) to hear the band playing all those songs live is the best Wilco one will ever hear. Whereas, some bands are best listened to on Vinyl, CD etc. They are touring Australia too next year, but I haven't seen a Brisbane date listed anywhere yet. I see them every time they tour, and hope they do make it to my home town.
They are playing two dates in near by Byron Bay (looks to be under two hours from Brisbane) at the Bluesfest there- oddly one is Sat. March 30th & the other is Mon. April 1st (not two nights in a row, but two nights at the fest- weird for a fest to run through a Monday night too)...I'll tell you two nights in a row means you'll probably be getting only about 1/3 repeats for the set list...when they play two nights in one place they usually mix it up quite a bit (my experience was 27 songs, & 18 were different each night)...though sometimes "festival sets" are capped at 90 min. ...depends on the festival (they've also done 27 song 2 & 1/4 shows at festivals too).... I'd say that's pretty darn close (especially compared to where else they are playing in Australia) & getting a chance to see two back to back gigs is a pretty rare opportunity

Below is a quote from an archived 2209 Tweedy interview in Uncut magazine that was just re-posted, but it references next month's issue which features Tweedy talking about the new album they are currently recording. That's why they aren't doing as many live dates in 2013- though I'm hoping for a later 2013 album release & some late in the year tour dates to follow!! Elsewhere I read that Tweedy noted that he had between 3 dozen & 100 song ideas/fragments laying about that they were working on. "Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy discusses his band’s upcoming new album in the current issue of Uncut (dated February 2013, Take 189), out now – but here, in this piece from Uncut’s August 2009 issue, Tweedy answers questions from fans and famous admirers, and discusses Bob Dylan’s beard, hanging with Neil Young and the recipe for the perfect burger (clue: use cranberries)…" http://www.uncut.co.uk/wilco/an-audience-with-wilco-s-jeff-tweedy-feature
Wow, I had no idea they were working on a new album already ... The Whole Love still feels "new" to me ... great news!
The Whole Love is on sale at Best Buy today only for $3.99 -- see Marketplace thread here... http://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/wilco-whole-love-3-99-at-best-buy-today-only.307573/
As good as The Whole Love sounds, I hope they record, mix and master this one analog back to the days of AGIB and YHFT.

http://www.fasterlouder.com.au/news/local/34913/Wilco-getting-prepared-to-make-another-record "Alt-country icons Wilco recently purchased a vintage mixing desk for their Chicago loft. And we can now confirm why: They’re planning on recording the follow-up to 2011’s The Whole Love. In a soon-to-be-published interview with country star turned FL reporter Henry Wagons, Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy said the band will be doing some writing and demoing in advance of their March Australian tour. “Towards the end of this month and before we head down there [to Australia] we’ll be doing some demoing and messing around in the studio, getting prepared to make another Wilco record soon.” Tweedy said there was a “restless” feeling within the group that could lay the foundation for a more experimental record. “Maybe it might be time to scratch the more – I don’t ever want to use the words that people have used to describe us like ‘experimental’ or ‘weird’, because I never have thought of us as being anything like that – but whatever that side of the band is, it feels like that’s an itch we haven’t scratched.” So we can expect some freaky ****, basically? “Well, I mean, that’s just what it feels like right now. You never know you might get enthralled with a couple of ballads and end up with a lush, symphonic record or something.” Wilco are part of a mega line-up for Bluesfest that also includes Paul Simon, Robert Plant, Rodriguez, Iggy & The Stooges, Santana and pretty much all your dad’s favourite bands. They’ll also be playing at the Sydney Opera House, as well as a double night stint at Melbourne’s Hamer Hall. The full interview with Wilco and Henry Wagons will be published on FL soon. The pair discussed Tweedy’s recent production work with Mavis Staples and Low, chicken schnitzel, signature guitars and much more." And this...from a post that also appeared today on the Via Chicago board, following the link above, where a member is speaking about the conversation with Jeff Tweedy from the Feb. issue of Uncut Magazine- "In rereading the Uncut piece, there isn't much specific info. Jeff says he's always got tons of song fragments that he looks to develop when the band gets together. He said that right now there are about 90 unrecorded song fragments he could develop, the most recent being one he wrote just the day before, with a working title "Associate Sunrise." Mainly he talked about the production of the Low and Mavis albums. He said the Mavis album is very spare musically. Both he and his son Spencer play on it; Spencer is on drums."
Thanks for posting this -- the wife and I are thinking about going this year. Anyone been that can advise/recommend/etc?
I can definitely recommend this festival having attended both previous ones. Fantastic location, venue, atmosphere and music. The tough part is where to stay. Camping just a block away is available on a grass lot but will sell out soon. Hotels etc. are usually booked way in advance for this though you could try to get on some waiting lists in case of cancelations. If you are flying the closest airport is Albany, NY,(N. Adams is closer to the NYS border than it is to Boston) otherwise it is Boston/Logan ( a bit further drive).
