Yeah "Smiley Smile" was a cool remix. I think that's as good a remix as Pet Sounds.

I don't mind "Summer Days" so much but "Today" blows.

He got the edit points completely wrong on Gettin' Hungry.
Heroes and Villains is missing that organ part that was on the 2001 stereo mix.
A few songs use incorrect vocal takes too.

The stereo mix of SS is the best thing that Linett has done with The Beach Boys.

Well, he did get the edit timings wrong on "Little Pad", ("snap...snap...(too much pause)....dih-dih-dih") though the US release improved (slightly) upon the Japanese release, which was even worse. The Japanese disc also lacked the background noises during "Wonderful", also corrected on the domestic release.

The 2001 remix lacked the organ of the original '67 single. It was more of a "Smile-era fantasy mix" than an attempt at replicating the Smiley Smile single. The version on the recent releases (2012 stereo/mono or AP SACD/LP) has the organ and replicates the released single's format.

I didn't notice alternate takes. Can you provide some examples?

I have the original Japanese CD, so I wasn't aware that he fixed some of those things.
For H&V, I meant the short organ parts that are played in the verses. Those are missing.
The beginning of With Me Tonight uses the wrong vocals. Also the harmonies at the end of Gettin' Hungry are a different take.

I'll have to double check my copies. I remember the "Gettin' Hungry" harmonies standing out to me when I heard them, but that's mainly because they were buried on the mono. I didn't detect a difference in takes, but I'll check again.

They could literally press mono on side A and stereo on side B. They'd never give that kind of value for money, but I'd buy it if it existed.

WH is my favorite Beach Boys album, but these linked remixes aren't doing it for me.

I'll definitely check this out if it does happen (streaming of course), but I'm probably gonna stick with my '80s Wally cut.

Listening to one of the Sea Of Tunes bootleg stereo mixes of Wild Honey as I type. Half of it is missing, but it is mixed in keeping with the era and it sounds good.

We can but hope that Mark Linett decides to make nice simple 60s style W-I-D-E S-T-E-R-E-O™ mixes with pleasant equalisation.

The MONO mix is available in high-rez, on vinyl, and on CD. It ain't going to disappear.

I'm looking forward to this LP coming out.

Yes. Actually it's a Jay Maynard cut, according to discogs: The Beach Boys - Wild Honey

I first discovered this classic from the '70s Reprise twofer with the cheezy cover art. Totally opened my mind about the Beach Boys. But the Green label Capitol became my go-to. Great sound, and the original cover art is restored.

Does it say "Capitol Monophonic Re-issue" at the top?

Gave that away when I got the Pastmasters CD. Silly me. Enjoy. That's the warmest, most natural sounding version I've ever heard. Really bad mixes but a nice groove if turned up loud enough.

But that's part of its magic, I think. Like for instance, that part in "Wild Honey" where Carl leans too close into the mic during the "Oh, mama..." part. Even as a teenager, that little detail just killed me. Pretty sure I often sang along with that part just because it's so spontaneous sounding.

I noticed they "fixed" that anomaly in the linked stereo remix. Leveled it out. Not cool.

Of course they fixed it. Hard to keep from fiddling with the stuff. Killed it dead. spontaneous no longer. No great surprise.

I think the 70's Brother pressing is duophonic. While it's a major bummer, it's still a nice album.

It's bass/treble rechanneled, but Wild Honey was never Duophonic.

I have the 1974 two-fer of Wild Honey and 20/20. Wild Honey is just regular fake stereo, so a mono switch is all that's needed.
Unfortunately for that version, How She Boogalooed It has annoying tape drag at the beginning. Other than that it sounds nice.
