My Dad's an audiophile and has a pair of these he offered to give to me. (He and the stepmom are moving to Arizona and freeing themselves of all material goods, apparently.) I'm not nearly as big an audiophile and know nothing about them. I assume they're good - any opinions?

You talkin' 'bout the Watt Puppies? They are awesome! :righton: Nice score man.

Thanks! I considered turning them down as I really don't know where I'll put them in my small house - I definitely won't be able to blast them as long as I live here. What do these things go for in the secondary market if I decided to sell them at some point?

    About $10.00.

And that's because I'm within driving distance of VA. :D

Seriously, I think you'd better hear them before you make any hasty decisions. :agree:

Don't let Gary fool you, Oats. They're worth $10 EACH, not for the pair.

I have the room to blast 'em ... ;)

Actually, Gary has a good point - you should probably latch onto them even if they are too big for your present room. I haven't auditioned them myself, but I've heard they're excellent.

Ok you two! (folding arms, tapping foot). Seriously, try around $10,000.00

Are they WATTS or WATT/Puppy combos? Either way they are worth thousands. WATTS were developed as monitors so they tend to be revealing (of both the good and bad recordings).

Oh, sorry... It came out as $10 because my "0" key must have gone on the blink after I typed the first one.

(Oh, it's workin' again... How 'bout that?)

That much ON THE SECONDARY MARKET??? Not just NEW??? Are you effin' with me?

Because if that's true, a) I have no idea why the Old Man's simply GIVING them to me (he's generous but not THAT generous), and b) no way I'm keeping them. They may sound great, but my ears are way too tinny to hear $10,000 of sound! I'm sure the Old Man didn't pay nearly that much for them - I vaguely recall him telling me they were something like $2500 when he got them, but I don't remember if that was each or for the pair. Is it possible they've appreciated in value?

I had no clue what the going rate would be for them, but if I can get thousands for them, onto the block they go! Revoke my membership here if you must - ain't no way I'm sacrificing all that money! Besides, I'll just get one of those "home theater in a box" deals that goes for $200 - it's got FIVE speakers and I'm sure it sounds just as good!

I asked the Old Man for the brand and model, and he simply replied "Wilson 'Witt'". You now know exactly what I know. But they're not the WATTS or WATT/Puppys - these are somewhat older speakers. Pretty sure these are the ones - they look like the Old Man's: http://www.audioreview.com/Main Speaker/Wilson Audio/PRD_120811_1594crx.aspx

Actually, Wilson Audio did make a WITT model, in both Mk I and Mk II versions. I don't think they've made 'em for a few years now, though. Pretty efficient loudspeakers, too. They were like 93 or 94dB efficient.

If you're familiar with the Wilson Grand SLAMM model, the WITT's were like a smaller version of those. Very nice, indeed. Retail was about $12K. I'd guess they'd go for about 50-60% of that on the used market.

I'd keep 'em myself. Save 'em for later...I'm sure you'll eventually be glad you did.

Thanks! I don't know what I'll do - sell or keep. I'm sure they're great speakers, but as I mentioned, I'm simply not all that picky, so the money sounds awfully good to me!

The Old Man's bequeathing some other probably high-end components to me as well - I don't know when I'll get them, but sometime soon. I'll probably mention them here for opinions as well...

I've heard them at the Old Man's house. I will play them, I'm sure, though I can't really give them a true test - I live in a duplex and the walls aren't thick enough to let me go wild! But the price is right: the Old Man's giving them to me and also picking up the tab for movers! I just need to figure out where I'll put them in my crowded house...

    Throw stuff out, Colin! ;)

Try putting a marble slab or patio stone under them. That should help prevent the sound from seeping thru the walls.
