Paul and Bob were in similar places in their lives around this time: both were young marrieds with young children, both were living somewhat reclusive lives in the country, Bob in Woodstock, Paul on his farm in Scotland. The cover of Wild Life showing Wings in the “heart of the country” and the photo of Paul holding a sheep from Ram are very similar to the photos on the inner gatefold and back cover of Self Portrait of Bob wandering through nature and raising chickens in Woodstock. The laid back musical vibe of Wild Life, parts of Ram, Self Portrait, and parts of New Morning reflects the back to nature, back to the simple things, away from the rat race lives that both men were leading during this moment in the early 70s. Of course this wouldn’t last, as Wings would ramp up touring in ‘72, and Dylan would hit the road in a big way in ‘74, but I remain fascinated by the music they made during their temporary retreat from the rock star treadmill.
I would hope by December 14th (a week after release date) that domestic orders to the US placed on the US site would arrive. If they ship out on release date...no reason it should take more than a week to arrive!
Arnie, I have to say I am looking forward to the whole freakin 71-73 box....every inch of book, lyric sheet, note of music etc. I for one though that Wild Life might never get the Archive treatment.... To hold it in our hands on December 7 or shortly after will truly be a "moment" for all Wings fans!
I'm really hoping the second edition is exactly the same as the first edition as I just missed out on the pre orders for the first one!
I liked Self Portrait. I used to play Alberta for my Mother, she liked it. (you can probably guess why)
I'm hoping the same so that I do not have to buy a second edition just because of something like a slightly different color box
I hope Paul will release one of the rough mixes from Wild Life before release date. How good those are will determine whether I want to get the deluxe version.
The Beatles Solo (1972) Wild Life In New York City (SHF), a playlist by Dr. Pepper on Spotify Side One "Well (Baby Please Don't Go)" (Walter Ward) Live (John) "Miss O'Dell" (George) "Mumbo" (Paul) "Bip Bop" (Paul) Give Peace A Chance (John) "Tomorrow" (Paul) Instant Karma!(We All Shine On) (John) Side Two "Beaucoups of Blues" (Ringo) "John Sinclair" (John) "I Live for You" (George) "Love Is Strange" (Mickey Baker, Sylvia Vanderpool, Ethel Smith) (Paul) "I Dig Love" (George) "Night and Day" (Ringo) Side Three "New York City" (John) "Wild Life" (Paul) "Cold Turkey" (John) "Deep Blue" (George) Power To The People (John) "Some People Never Know" (Paul) "Blind Man" (Ringo) Side Four "Woman Is the n****r of the World" (John) "Hear Me Lord" (George) "The Luck of the Irish" (John) "Dear Friend" (Paul) "Bangla Desh" (George) "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)" (John) "Cold Turkey" (John) Live This may just be the most rocking Beatles playlist that I've ever put together!
Unlikely I think, since the rough mixes are boxset exclusives. Only the special editions are on streaming services/downloads so only tracks from them would be made available. The only other option is a free mp3 of something that should be included in the reissues, but isn’t!
Yeah, that's true. I mean, given that the rough mixes are the only thing exclusive to the deluxe version, musicwise at least, so I'm thinking there must be /something/ to them. Might just have to wait for the reviews.
In the not too distant future we will be discussing this: McCartney Produce has been contracted to distribute.
Wow-that looked spectacular. Never dreamt Wild Life would get this treatment. Expensive sure-but it looks extremely well crafted.
