This is a quote from Wishbone Ash guitarist Andy Powell in the most recent new email.

The big news on the compilation front, though, is the Snapper Records' "Wishbone Ash The Vintage Years" deluxe box set that will be out possibly by September 2017. A lot of work has been going into this 32-CD retrospective this summer with ancient 24-track masters being located and licenses achieved from people like Universal Records. It promises to be one of the deepest and best-produced packages ever seen for a band of our pedigree featuring music from 1969 to 1990. A beautiful coffee table book will be part of the whole thing, along with photos, artifacts and historical material. It'll be like a time capsule for any rock fan to peruse the early years, in depth, from a veteran 47 year-old British rock band. The folks at Snapper are masters of this limited-run production, but even they are foaming at the mouth in terms of the sheer quality of the material they have uncovered. It promises to be one of their finest productions.

    This could be really cool!

Yeah, I got the AshFlash email too. If I go to see Ash next month at Sellersville I'll have to ask for some details, mainly what will be in there that is rare/unreleased (if anything)?

Sure, no problem (unless I am sworn to secrecy, which I doubt). I haven't been up to the official forum in awhile but I would not be surprised if there might be a thread up there already about this release, maybe some more details (or eventually there will be).

Not to veer wildly off-topic, but the other day I bought a 2016 Wishbone Ash release
called `The Best Of Wishbone Ash Broadcasting Live'. It has a `Live Dates' cover.
    What exactly is this?

It's a mishmash pirate/ripoff of some other stuff.

If you ever have a question about a Wishbone release checkout my buddy Rainer Frilund's comprehensive Ash Discography website.

Here is exactly what this is, exact link to the page about it (easier to read with full formatting on Rainer's link below but I also pasted in the info here):

Only loosely aware of Wishbone Ash, but Snapper doesn't put out rubbish box sets and they've already gotten me switched on to The Pretty Things, Family and Streetwalkers, so I see no reason why this won't end up on my list next year and induct Wishbone Ash into my collection. :D

In case it's not abundantly clear, I kind of have a thing for these super boxes. :pineapple:

They're always so good live. I see them every time they pass through my area. Too bad you forgot to ask Andy for some info.

I would hope that this mega set would feature some concerts from their vintage years at least on DVD (if not blu-ray). Sadly, it looks like it is only 32 CDs.

It is unfortunate that video material is so scarce for some of these bands during their seminal lineups. I had the pleasure of seeing the original line up (with both Turners) in Houston in the early 70s, with JoJo Gunne opening the show. I don't remember individual songs, except for Phoenix, one of my favorites by Wishbone Ash.

    Hi,
New here, but "slipkid" has mentioned me quite a few times. Thanks!
About the box set, this much is available so far:
    Wishbone Ash
    Seems like it's advancing...

    Cool news Rainer.

I don't have a facebook account and when I go to that page I see a photo of some photos of Andy stacked near a window, with this caption:

"Signed, sealed and soon to be delivered autographed pics of Andy for the upcoming box set."

Is there any other news up there that you can see if you have a facebook account or is that it?

That's all there is, but I think it promises that the project advances.

As far as I know, the old MCA stuff is owned by Universal Music.
The 80's and early 90's: God knows who (originally IRS etc.).
The latter stuff is in Andy's hands.

The 32 CD box set concentrates on the MCA era stuff (studio and
live recordings) and possibly IRS era, but details have not been
    published as yet.

According to Andy anything that has at least three original members on it is fair game for the box set. So yeah that would include the IRS albums in theory. Whether they will be used though I dunno, but I assume they will be. I'm hoping for more rarities to come out from albums like Strange Affair or Here to Hear.
